I got one too. I think if you need more than one replacement card a year it is a fair charge.5

Seems fair enough.1

Not a Barclays customer, but I would be happy with my banks introducing a similar replacement card charge. One free replacement per year seems ample. I've yet to request one so far in this lifetime. What is a little steep is the premium for requesting first class post.2

Monzo introduced a £5 fee for replacement debit cards under the same circumstances as Barclays have stated in this letter back in 2020.It could be that other banks may follow suit at some point.

Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:2 -
It doesn't seem uncreasonable really, if you need more than one a year you could always switch bank account to get one free.

feel this is fair as it will cost the banks money to make the Debit/Credit cards..
So free cards for new accounts/expired ones fine with all others £5/£10 charge
I feel they will charge for paper statements at some point soon as well

Seems reasonable to me - I wonder how many people loose/damage their debit card more then once a year though?
looks like the new charges don’t apply to wealth management customers - or they have forgotten to update the relevant fees document!
edit: just saw the post about Monzo - if the same applies to Barclays then 1% of customers resulting in 35% of replacement card costs then I see why they would start charging!0 -
Not as often as you think. But it tends to be the same people that lose theirs many times.Se1Lad said:Seems reasonable to me - I wonder how many people loose/damage their debit card more then once a year though?
Back in the old Maestro days. Where you had a issue number. You could only have 10 cards. Amazing the number that went through all 10 in a year. Which resulted in a lot of background work to sort it out...Life in the slow lane2 -
Maybe Barclays are about to rebrand their debit cards, and this is to discourage people from applying to replace their old style card!born_again said:

or maybe they think it will be a money earner and they will make some profit out of the £5 charge when people pay to get the latest card early!

Hope they do rebrand their debit cards soon0
