This is why I hate private landlords with a passion, they can kick you out anytime, with private renting, there is no security, you can end up homeless any time.

I am with a Housing Association and I had my flat since 2012, I would never give up my social housing flat over private, not a chance! My flat is mine for as long as I want it and pay my rent.

Private renting should be scrapped, end off!
If private renting were scrapped, where would millions of people live?  There is a desperate shortage of social housing already.  We need a lot more housing not less

Firstly, a landlord cannot kick you out 'anytime.  It should also be noted that private landlords fill a void and the current lack of available rental properties would be much more acute if these properties were not in the market - leading to higher rents as just one consequence.  Some, me included, are asking tenants to leave and selling up because of changes in legislation and taxation.  It is no longer viable for many of us to continue as legislation and taxation rules are forcing many to exit the market.  Whilst you may have a certain view on private landlords, we are not all evil individuals with no social conscience.  My friends that live in social housing have had far more issues with their landlord - a local council - than my tenants have ever had with me.

I know its a little different but i served a S8 on 14th Feb and i have a court hearing on 23rd May so its not as long as people are saying
    S8 is very different.....

So does the court timescale differ from a section 21 to a section 8?

If this has been your home for 15 years and you are happy there would you be in a position to put in an offer to buy? This would save your landlord and EA fees and loss of rent for the time it would be empty between you moving out and a sale completing. If not, just take your time to look for somewhere suitable, a landlord reference isn't always a big deal and you showing you've lived there for 15 years shows that your landlord has been happy enough with you as a tenant for all that time.

They want to put it on the open market.  So now that boat has sailed.

In my letter I did state that if they sent a valuer I would make time for it. Now that time has gone.

New User name as MSE gave me a number in my old one.

Landlord of neighbouring flat issued S21 last summer. He has just got a possession order and now needs to start the eviction process.  So it will have taken nearly a year.

My LL served me a S21 after nearly 15 years out of the blue because they want to sell.
I have no rent arrears, not even a late payment.
So have been looking for somewhere else to live, I didn't think it would be a problem  but it has.
I've tried to remain in contact with the LL (now though a letting agent) saying I might need a month longer (should be out by 23rd Apr), but not heard a peep till today.
They have refused the extra month. On the call I did explain that I simply can't leave as that makes me deliberate homeless.

So I am wanting to know a  rough minimum time-frame that it will take a court to issue the eviction notice.
I've been waiting to gain possession of my property for almost 2 years now. The section 21 was issued in 2020! There's no way that the court will try and get you out within that extra month you requested. The courts are very slow at the moment with backlogs and also seem like they want to delay evictions.

Just leave after that extra month you wanted. Nothing will happen in that time.

Surely that all depends on the backlog of the particular court?
It's quite possible that some only have 2 month delays whereas others could be 18+ months depending on the number of S21's and their current staffing situation?
The OP has already contacted their local courts who have replied that it will be 2 months until the hearing.....
