We have the thermostat at 19 degrees and the heating timed to come on 4 times a day which I don't think is too excessive. I don't know whether to contact British Gas to have them check the accuracy of our smart meter - we can literally see it ticking up when we boil a kettle! Costs us about 5p!
I would say 19C is set a bit high and 4 times a day is a lot as well. You need to breakdown your usage into units, to figure out where its been spent, I expect a fair chunk might be on your heating though.

They would need to fit a check meter which most suppliers are reluctant to do AND if they do agree, you will have to pay them if your meter is found to be accurate. I ask again because it is important, how much gas and electricity does the £7 represent in term of kWh?
Forget about the IHD and the cost that it is showing. A simple way of checking an electricity meter is via a load test. A cold HW cylinder is ideal as most immersion heaters are 3kW. Check the actual meter reading, and turn the immersion heater on for 30 minutes. The meter reading should increase by 1.5kWh. Gas is more tricky to check. The attached image is what kw our smart meter is showing today. This was at 4pm with a total cost of £3.84.0 -

Put a blanket, towel, old duvet or old pillow on the sofa, if it's a short / long haired cat they don't need the heating on while you're out; assuming it's not a fur less cat.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.1 -
I'd say stop looking at your meters so much, read them once a week at the same time.

I checked my energy graph on edf website and the graph was up and down last month like a yoyo, I dont understand why as last months my usage has been much the same over the past 2 years on a fixed rate. On checking Aprils I can see the usage has gone down as Ive cut down on usage. The graph isnt up to date, on 1st April night was £3-03 (night storage and immersion) day 96p. On the 6th April night was £2-22 ( night storage down a notch and immersion only on for 1 hour on econ7) day 91p.
Will be interesting to see when April 8th is on the graph as thats when I did a wash and used the dryer, being on my own I do a wash and dry weekly.1 -
