Thanks for all your answers - an average of £7.00 daily spend by 7pm each evening does seem steep then considering there are only two of us! We have the thermostat at 19 degrees and the heating timed to come on 4 times a day which I don't think is too excessive. I don't know whether to contact British Gas to have them check the accuracy of our smart meter - we can literally see it ticking up when we boil a kettle! Costs us about 5p!
There is only one way that a supplier can check a meter - smart or not. They would need to fit a check meter which most suppliers are reluctant to do AND if they do agree, you will have to pay them if your meter is found to be accurate. I ask again because it is important, how much gas and electricity does the £7 represent in term of kWh?

Forget about the IHD and the cost that it is showing. A simple way of checking an electricity meter is via a load test. A cold HW cylinder is ideal as most immersion heaters are 3kW. Check the actual meter reading, and turn the immersion heater on for 30 minutes. The meter reading should increase by 1.5kWh. Gas is more tricky to check.

My IHD hasn't updated with the new prices yet, but I have worked them out on a spreadsheet.  Since 01 April, I have varied between £3.97 and £5.52, mainly depending on how long the gas central heating is on for.  The top of the range was a day of 2 long wash cycles, heating for about 5 hours as grandchildren here, and a change of our aquarium water.

This is for a 3 bedroom, 30s detached bungalow with cavity wall insulation, but needing insulation topped up in the loft for next winter.

I am thinking that my range in summer will be around £2.50 to £3.00 and in winter between £6 and £7 (I am on a fixed rate until Mar 2023. E is 26.76 usage/40.3 SC, G is 6.66 usage/42.31 SC).

I am adopting energy saving measures (the aquarium is going when the fish reach the end of their life), but with an asthmatic in the house I can't let it get too cold and will cut back on other things.

Mine has been about fiver. 2 bed flat, all electric, economy 10. 1 storage heater on all time, 1 convector heater on 3 hours a day. 1 electric shower.  £4.50-£5 a day.  Ridiculous only me here. Storage heat is about £1.80 of that. Current direct debit £69!  Need to up that

    Household of 3 adults.
    Budgeted for £4 per day
Our most expensive day was Saturday had visitors around £4.31 for electricity and gas
Average over the past 5 days is £3.20 per day for gas and electricity.
So my DD will likely be just under £100 from £66 the month before.

Trying not to be too obsessive but more a lifestyle not to waste energy for example switching lights off, keeping windows closed etc.

Luckily summer months around the corner some savings from heating towards the expected October increase.

My monthly costs, based on my annual consumption, at todays rates is £158. If I divide that by 30 days I get £5.27 a day. It's entirley possible that your costs could be £7 a day in winter.

Rather than focus on a day, if you look at your bills and find your annual consumption, then work out the annual costs based on standing charges and unit prices. Divide that by 12 to get your average monthly costs or 365 for a daily figure if you must. It's a good exercise to do to get your finances prepared for what is to come in energy costs. There will be another rise in October most likely.
Going on my estimated usage of 1709 kWh electric and 914 kWh gas the electric is using £1.76 per day and the gas £0.46p per day. This figure was taken from the pre April calculations but yesterday I used just 2.742 kWh that's just £1.23 of electric and £0.34 on gas.
