Thanks for the heads up - seems like the initial outlay is potentially quite high. Found some budget priced versions on amazon but reviews suggested very petite sizing, slow delivery and extra postage costs (doubly expensive if you need to return it). However did spot a mains powered gilet on offer for under £20 so decided to give it a whirl, seems like a good fit for saving money from the sofa!

Yes, a dehumidifier works brilliantly and removes quantities of water, so my bathroom always feels warmer and washing dries well. What is perhaps not so well known is that the air from the dehumidifier is warm - a bonus.

Unless someone is ill, there's no need to heat the house while people are in bed. With an electric blanket or hot-water bottle the bed is toasty and that's all that matters until the morning.

We use pet self heating pads on our settee both to sit on and behind our backs.  They come with lush Sherpa fleece washable covers.  They are cheap to buy and once purchased cost nothing to run.  They are very reasonably priced and come in various sizes.

Hi stu, pleased to say it’s been really good  :) The heat goes all the way up the back and round to the shoulders at the front, with five power levels to choose from. A friend who suffered a serious back injury was advised by his doctor to get one, so there’s definite therapeutic value. Similarly I’ve found it good as a lap blanket, on the basis that it’s easier to multi layer clothes above the waist than below. Unlike a USB device you’re restricted to the cable length, but it’s hard to beat for economical heat and is a great buy for £17.99. https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B09BFXYMLZ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I bought a job lot of 5 stone hot water bottles at a local clearance store.  I replaced the perished rubber parts with circles I cut from a discarded ultra-heavy duty tube as used in an offroad motorcycle.

Not very effective but cheap to do if you have condensation:  I have used old food trays such as minced beef, filled with salt, in rooms with condensation.  Lidl appears to be cheapest for salt - 750g packet was 20p on 27.11.22.  (Make sure no holes in tray!)
