As others have said, I'm not really sure why this cannot be done face to face at the Post Office. Surely it cannot be any more time consuming than being behind a shopkeeper banking the day's takings?

Post Office is a seperate company to Royal Mail.

One of the joys of privatisation - Royal Mail and Post Office are separate businesses.  Unless RM pays the PO why would they take on another company's administative tasks?

    No.
Signed for gives compensation up to £50, regular stamps only cover up to £20 (with proof of postage).

THE OP mentions "I use the 1st class large letter service for many of my packages (which are also under 100g), and knowing that prices would be going up, I purchased all of the '1st class large letter signed for' stamps"

I ask because I've just swapped some large letter stamps successfully.

But the OP wants to swap the special delivery stamps which are no longer produced.

That's what I was trying to ask, what does a large letter signed for stamp look like?

OK. I wasn't aware of that distinction. Nice to know.

You mean 'separate', of course.  ;)

Well, I took the risk (*) and posted about £50 worth of stamps to the freepost address.

I received my swaps this morning, 4 times.
i.e. The same letter (containing £50 worth of stamps), 4 times.

I now have £200 worth of stamps.
What on earths name do with all these? I was highly doubtful that I'd ever have got around to spending the £50...

The fact an admin error like this can occur, doesn't fill one with confidence. Fortunately, I've come out on the right side of their admin error. Pretty shocking though.

    Anyone else experience the same?
