Dishwasher powder

Hi

I don't currently have a dishwasher (and have never used one), however I'm buying a house and the kitchen has space for a dish washer

I've watched this

Now, seemingly dishwasher tablets aren't amazing

I've seen this, in terms of a supermarket own brand from Sainsbury's. I don't believe any other supermarket sells their own brand

Finish has this product and it's cheaper at Sainsbury's compared to Tesco and others (unless you buy six from Amazon)

Amazon has this

I can't however see any other powder other than these three. Does anyone know of any others?

In addition do I need stuff like rinse aid or dishwasher salt?

Sorry I couldn't watch the whole video, probably just as well because American dishwashers are decades behind ours.

Detergent - whichever you get on with, we use bottom of the range Finish tablets but just go with what you like.

Rinse aid - if you get water marks on your glassware then use rinse aid, if you don't, then don't bother.

salt - yes, use salt, it lengthens the life of the dishwasher. otherwise you'll be calling the dishwasher repair man (that's me, or it was before I retired).
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
  • Use salt if your water is hard enough to need it. If it's soft enough already, don't bother.

The manual for your dishwasher should give details of the hardness level below which salt isn't needed. Ours did, anyway. Then our water company website had details of the hardness of our water.

We get ours at Aldi - never had any problems.
We use the tablet ones -no mess.

I've been using the Sainsbury's powder for years, mainly because I felt it was the most eco friendly, no plastic wrappers and comes in a cardboard box. It's always cleaned my dishes well and I use half of what it suggests per load. Yes to dishwasher salt as others have said, rinse aid I add when it's on special buy in Aldi :)

You can also buy dishwasher liquid from some places.

Personally having tried a couple of own brand tablets and finding them rubbish...we buy either fairy or finish depending on what's on offer.

As above, there's always some discount on for dishwasher tablets so I go for whichever is the cheapest. Yes, use rinse aid and salt but your machine will tell you how often you need to top it up. I live in Notts and I only top my machine up with salt maybe once a year if that, my dad's in Lincolnshire gets through salt like nobodies business and needs refilling at least once a month.

I use whichever tablet works out cheapest, which is usually Lidl or Aldi.

Looking at the Amazon reviews they say it washes better than tablets? And it works out as 8p/wash or 6.4p/wash if you buy 20kg

Ah fortunately live in a soft water area which means it takes years to build up even a tiny amount of limescale

The first time I saw limescale was at uni and wondered "What's this stuff"
