Been using Finish Dishwasher powder for years, tried tablet once and found it not great.  I do have a softner and use generous amounts of rinseaid.

It is a shame that there are very few powder versions on the market tbh

    Hi

I don't currently have a dishwasher (and have never used one), however I'm buying a house and the kitchen has space for a dish washer

    I've watched this

Now, seemingly dishwasher tablets aren't amazing

I've seen this, in terms of a supermarket own brand from Sainsbury's. I don't believe any other supermarket sells their own brand

Finish has this product and it's cheaper at Sainsbury's compared to Tesco and others (unless you buy six from Amazon)

    Amazon has this

I can't however see any other powder other than these three. Does anyone know of any others?

In addition do I need stuff like rinse aid or dishwasher salt?
I've been using the Sainsbury's powder for years, mainly because I felt it was the most eco friendly, no plastic wrappers and comes in a cardboard box. It's always cleaned my dishes well and I use half of what it suggests per load. Yes to dishwasher salt as others have said, rinse aid I add when it's on special buy in Aldi :)
How are you finding the Sainsbury's one? The reviews suggest it isn't great

    Dishwasher tablets

There are only two that qualify as “Which?” best buys at present:

Fairy Platinum Plus All in One Lemon, score 82%

Aldi Magnum Original All in One, score 72%

Needless to say Fairy is the more expensive of the two.

    Salt and Rinse Aid

As has been said in an earlier post, you only need salt if your water is hard.  Refer to your instruction manual and check the hardness with your water supplier – you may find this online or in the leaflet that comes with your bill.

You don’t have to use rinse aid, only if you are not happy with the drying results.

This is an interesting thread as I am having the same issue as OP trying to find decent powder after watching the same video.
I have turned to the commercial sector instead and ordered some liquid instead. Nisbets is open to the trade and public.

Commercial Dishwasher Detergent & Rinse Aid, Glasswasher Detergent | Nisbets

This is the best value I've found because I can click and collect the items from Edinburgh. It might be worth it if you have a store near you?

I'll let you know how I get on with the product. I ordered Jantex Pro Dishwasher Detergent Concentrate 5Ltr for around £10 once you add on the VAT.

It was the cheapest thing I could buy click and collect. This product seems the same and is cheaper if you are able to collect it.

Be aware that dishwasher detergent made for commercial dishwashers isn't really suitable for domestic machines. Commercial dishwasher cleaning programmes are a lot quicker than domestic machines and the detergent is designed specifically for the purpose.

Been using the Aldi tablets for several years without any problems, no salt or rinse aid as we are in a soft water area and have not needed them.

Dishwasher gels / liquids for domestic machines are sold by both sainsbury's and waitrose - and I think there is a finish branded option too.
