Have E.on Next removed the option for you to change Direct Debit?

Hi, I am new to E.on after Igloo went bust.  Up until now i have been able to adjust my own direct debit amount.  I regularly review my payment when my statement comes through and have managed to come through winter with a 200 credit.  This hasn't stopped E.on ramping my new payment up by nearly £100 pound a month from May.  I know i need a good amount of credit to get through next winter.  I tried to change my DD to a more reasonable amount but the option seems to have gone.  I was just wondering if other E.on customers have found the same or if i am looking in the wrong place.  I just want to be in control of my payments so i can balance my useage and payments without getting a massive credit on my account.  I don't want them dictating what i have to pay if i am not in debt to them.  I am sure i have been with E.on before and i ended up with huge credit amounts and when i called to query they told me i needed to pay for all my energy in advance 😤 so i left and got my credit back.

You can increase but not reduce on the web portal under manage my payments.  Is the new payment 1/12th of your annual bill ?

If you would like some help working out what your calculations will be for the year starting today perhaps you could let us know the following

    1) exact amount if credit your account is in
    2) current direct debit (before they put it up)
    3) exact energy usage in kWh for elec and gas
    4) is your house band A-D as you will get a council tax energy rebate of £150 this month if it is
    5) current plan Standing charges and KWH price in pence for elec and gas, if this is fixed we need the end date but if it's next flex just say next flex

We can then give you some ammo for your discussions with EON next

Have you just come off a fixed tariff or will you in the near future?

While there is the "average 54% increase" for those already on SVT from today, it will be much higher if you are coming off a fixed tariff.

    Hi Lena,

I'm having the same issue and was originally with Igloo to, so glad its not just me!

My current DD is £85, I put this up a few months ago without an issue. However I opted to increase the DD as of 1st March to £188 a month and have it capped for 1 year (bonkers price).

The issue I have is I cannot change the DD to £188, Computer says I can only increase to £194! I cannot do less? But I am still only paying £85 DD, so it just means I will need to do a seperate £103 each month as a top up via my card.

Does this make any sense to anybody?

You are confusing bills, fixed tariffs and Direct Debit.

Your monthly Direct Debit is money into a pot. Your bill is when your payments are reconciled against your usage, giving you either a positive or negative balance. The "capped for 1 year" likely means you have gone onto an expensive fixed tariff. The £188 is not a contractual amount, it is not all you can eat energy, so it will likely need to be adjusted at some point to take account of actual usage.

The £194 may be based on your estimated usage and the difference between £188 and £194 makes no real difference so why not just set it to £194?

    Thanks Matt,

Yes I am confued and I know the £194 to £188 is so small, my worry is if I cannot reduce the DD as I used to be able to do with Igloo, there seems no benefit in paying £194 dd to my current £85 dd. and just paying the extra top up, is ok just not great.

I must admit I assumed ! would be paying £188 a month for the year so thanks for clarifying it not set in stone!

    Cheers Bizzy

I've just logged in to my online account and there was an option called manage my payments and in this I could then change the amount. It looked like I could choose any amount but I didn't need to change it so can't say for sure.

It doesn't look like the app gives you this option.

Although there will probably a long time on hold you could try 0808 501 5088 and speak to someone about the DD.
    Try e-mail too hi@eonnext.com
Their f.a.q.s advise to contact them re any DD change requests.
I did increase mine in my account but wasn't aware it couldn't be reduced that way!
I have just checked in my account and there is an option to submit a request to increase AND decrease the DD. Either by entering a figure or using up/down arrows.
"It doesn't look like the app gives you this option."
    No, it doesn't.
I too am ex Igloo, and can't remember the system there for DDs

I am with eon next. No direct debit! They e mail me just before the end of each month to remind me to send a meter reading. I do this through the app.A day later I get my bill,I pay it. Simple. No debt,no credit,I pay for what I use. It just takes a little bit of effort on my part.Hardly hard work!

But you are also paying more than you would using direct debit.  Direct Debit rates are cheaper.
