Standard Licence Conditions require suppliers to use either a customer-provided or a smart meter reading for billing. If the supplier is receiving smart readings, the supplier will use a smart meter reading when a tariff rate changes. It will also use a validated customer reading (validated: yes some people do add 000s of kWhs to a reading if they think it will save them money). If no readings are available/provided, then the data collector will produce an estimate.Whatever the consumer does or doesn’t do, the new tariff rate will be applied to the account on the appropriate date.0

Nathan83 said:Hi Please can you help me with my current problem.Last year I was in credit paying direct Debit with Orbit energy supplier. Due to the company closing down, Orbit moved me onto Scottish power.on 29th March 2022 I contacted Scottish power and gave them my meter reading:
Gas - 01187
Elec - 06093
The agent inform me that after 10 days I will be issued with a revised bill.On the 11th April I contacted Scottish Power asking for an update on my new bill. They informed me that there is an error on the system with my account. After looking into it further the agent told me that they are disputing the readings i provided. They said, my gas reading is a lot different to what they have calculated and that it was not possible (their estimate for gas: 12275. They asked for a photo of which i informed them that I was not asked to do this at the time. The agent asked me for a new reading but when I questioned them on the rate, they agreed that if I provide them with another updated reading I will be on the higher tariff.I told them that this was not fair and I wont be giving them a new reading as I do not want to go onto the higher tariff. Please note, on 13th April I took a photo of my gas reading and now it reads:01220.PLEASE HELP.
Do you have a Secure Liberty meter which has an almost invisible decimal point . Your reading could be 11870 if you have made an easy to make error by including a leading zero .0 -

The meter appears to have been installed on 1 July 2019 and has recorded usage of around 13,500kWh.In other words, it's taken nearly three years to clock up only slightly more than average annual consumption, so you can see why they think the reading should be much higher.Any reason why your usage should be so low?0
