You don't send it off at all. You take it just in case there is a disagreement in the actual meter reading.

Just log into your account and submit it. Some providers have an email address where you can send your meter readings to.

Been trying to submit online readings to Shell, but app and website have crashed I assume - managed to send an email but will this be accepted?  I will keep trying to submit online and will try not to be too cynical!

Even British Gas's "Submit a Meter Reading Here" link is unable to load and accept a reading.  Pleased to see they sent me a text with advice to reply with a reading.

Take the readings last thing today, then if you cannot get onto the site to submit the readings for any reason if they allow you to say the date it was read put in 31/3/22. Octopus always bill me as the day before when I submit readings so if your provider does the same just put in 1/4/22 as the reading date.
Someone please tell me what money is

  • Hi Please can you help me with my current problem.

Last year I was in credit paying direct Debit with Orbit energy supplier. Due to the company closing down, Orbit moved me onto Scottish power.

on 29th March 2022 I contacted Scottish power and gave them my meter reading:

    Gas - 01187

    Elec - 06093

The agent inform me that after 10 days I will be issued with a revised bill.

On the 11th April I contacted Scottish Power asking for an update on my new bill. They informed me that there is an error on the system with my account. After looking into it further the agent told me that they are disputing the readings i provided. They said, my gas reading is a lot different to what they have calculated and that it was not possible (their estimate for gas: 12275. They asked for a photo of which i informed them that I was not asked to do this at the time.

The agent asked me for a new reading but when I questioned them on the rate, they agreed that if I provide them with another updated reading I will be on the higher tariff.

I told them that this was not fair and I wont be giving them a new reading as I do not  want to go onto the higher tariff.

Please note, on 13th April I took a photo of my gas reading and now it reads:01220.

    PLEASE HELP.

@Nathan83 What was the gas meter reading on your previous bill? How does the recent consumption compare to previous. You should be able to demonstrate that SP's "estimate" is wildly out!
Also when you speak with them next, check not only are they talking about your account - check account number & details, but also the serial number of the gas meter and check yours against your previous bills as well.

Look back on your Orbit bills - what readings are on them ?
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill
