Okay just asked on The Grabbit board and I need;
fast action yeast
strong bread flour
butter
and dried milk powder.
Got the first three items - is the dried milk in the tea/coffee aisle? Never bought it before so not quite sure what I am looking for.
Need to have it on stock so that I can make some over Christmas.
Also any recommendations for which make flour makes the best wholemeal or granary please?
Thanks.Ageing is a privilege not everyone gets.

Dried milk is in tea aisle, but you do not need it really unless you feel you have to follow recipes exactly.
Bread works fine without it, but if making immediately then 50/50 water & liquid milk would do you
Butter again is not important, any oil or fat would do, I use olive oil but any veg one would do. I have seen recommends for lard, but can not comment on that as never used it
Can't advise on best wholemeal etc, I always use what is on offer, seems to work fine but then I do not make loads of them, I mainly make 50/50 white/wholemeal which always works unlike 100% wholemeal which I find can be a bit "solid" at timesGardener’s pest is chef’s escargot0 -
Ours arrived today and DH made a large white loaf, it's divine! So much nicer than our old bread maker. Lighter, not at all stodgy. Lovely!January budget

I've used mine twice now and just wondered whether the size of loaf I'm getting sounds right. I made a large rapid white loaf and a xl granary loaf. I know those are likely to be smaller than a normal white but both were about the size of a small-medium loaf in the shops. Does this sound ok or do you think I'm doing anything wrong or could there be a problem with the maker?0

My large was about 21cm tall with the same base size as the tin. Compared with our old bread maker it's twice the size of the loaf we used to make.
I can't believed I just measured my loaf of bread!January budget

I ordered one of these because I couldn't believe what a good price it was. It's just arrived - and I want to make some bread. However, I can't work out from the manual (or am too excited to read it properly), do you have to melt the butter before you put it into the machine or can you put it in as a lump. Any advice please.
Thank you in advance0 -
