I've been invited to a relatives wedding who has requested money as a present but I'm not sure how much to give.  We're not very close & tend to only see each other at other family weddings & funerals.  I don't want to give too little & look mean.  What is a good amount to give?  Any advice would be much appreciated.

I don't see how anyone here saying how much they would give is helpful. it really is a how long is a piece of string question.  Depends on so many factors such as your income, how much you would spend if you bought a gift etc.

Thanks for your response.  All I was looking for is a general idea of what others thought would be acceptable so I could tailor it to my circumstances.

I hate that type of request with vengeance.

I take a bottle of champers and a card and have done with it.

    Me too.

When some friends of ours got married they did a (cringy) poem asking for money.

We opted to buy 2 bottles of excellent - and expensive - gin (their choice of tipple) and it was very well received.

Well, if this will help, as we are a couple we give £100 to family and friends.

It's quite tempting to do that!

Thankfully no cringy poem on my invite but that could be an option for me.

    I had exactly this question.

We ended up gifting the value that was indicated by Mum, which happened to be equal to a week's wages so gives us a marker for future nieces and nephews should they also marry and can be adjusted to reflect changes in our position or the economy.

What we did may not be what others decide to do.

It also sounds as though the OP may not be as close to their "relative" as we are to our nieces / nephews.

It definitely sounds like you're closer to your nieces & nephews than I am to my relative.  However, the responses in your link has given me food for thought.  Thank you :)
