Save money and supply the parts yourself - all you need to do is pay Labour

I would never do that.  It then becomes your problem if something goes wrong after the car was serviced, because it was your parts that were fitted.  The garage will deny any responsibility.
I paid £45 for windscreen wipers that cost £17 by not supplying my own parts.

From a thread I started a few weeks ago.

BMW wanted to charge me £44 for a rear windscreen wiper but were surprisingly competitive on tyres.

An MOT advisory was a split rear windscreen wiper and they offered to fit a new one for £44. I presume most of that is the labour charge and they probably have a minimum charge of 15 or 30 minutes regardless of how long the job actually takes. No thanks I said. I bought one on eBay for £4.45 including delivery, It arrived within a few days and took me 30 seconds to fit.
A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".

My air con compressor failed and my local independent wanted to use his preferred supplier, £380 plus fitting and regas +vat, about £530 all in. Eurocarparts £115inc vat. Total for fitting and regas including my brand new compressor £265. Car only worth about £500 but nothing worth buying out there at the moment so stuck with it.
Electric water pump went on my Z4.

Genuine BMW one is nigh on £600.  Its a reboxed Pierburg unit, so i got my local indy to price one of those.  Best price he could get on it was £400 plus £70 for the thermostat.  I was in no rush so got the Pierburg pump and a Mahle thermostat from Ebay Germany for under £260 delivered.

Arrived in a week, local indy happily fitted it.

If theres only a few £s difference i'd let him go ahead as he gets the stuff same day and its his problem if theres a fault with the part but on that occasion there was a big saving to be made.

Any upgrades i've done hes happily fitted the parts - coilover kit and ceramic pads, etc.

I'm a strong believer in building a relationship with a good indy.  Pays dividends.
