How many sparkplugs in a Suzuki 1.0 3 cylinder engine ?

You can have your car serviced by any garage providing that it is done to the manufacturers specification with their parts and keep your warranty valid.Parts departments will supply the parts often much cheaper than the service department - a can of quality oil will be much cheaper than the bulk stuff service departments use. Do the spark plugs @ £25 per plug inc VAT include fitting?

I always take my own parts to my mechanic and he’s quite happy to fit them for me.
I use only Mann filters and Total oil in my car which he can’t get except from main dealer.
Ive got a good relationship with him and trust him, built up over the last 25 years. unlike main dealers.
I had to cancel a job with him last minute and it was not a issue.
When I was passing him 2 weeks later I dropped off a bottle of his favourite gin.

In general i would agree with you (eg expensive items or items that if they fail are catastrophic eg cambelt kits) but not so much on run of the mill service parts.Ectophile said:Grey_Critic said:Save money and supply the parts yourself - all you need to do is pay Labour
I would never do that. It then becomes your problem if something goes wrong after the car was serviced, because it was your parts that were fitted. The garage will deny any responsibility.
Having said all that trying to get the right item can be problematic when they list three different oil filters etc for your car and you arrive with the wrong one.

I reckon I must be very lucky with our local mechanic. Any time he's done anything to my car, whether routine servicing or fixing faults, what he charges for parts is less than I can buy them for myself - and yes, he uses the "proper" parts as specified by the manufacturer. I assume he gets a trade discount, which is why he can get stuff cheaper than me. Add to that his extremely reasonable labour rates, it's no wonder he's the most popular guy for miles around :-)Bigwheels1111 said:I always take my own parts to my mechanic and he’s quite happy to fit them for me.

They fit whatever brands they have experience of in the lower to mid range pricing as your average customer wont want to pay extra for Mobil 1 oil and Brembo brakes on their 1.2 litre Fiesta or whatever.Ibrahim5 said:I occasionally use an independent garage. If you ask them what parts they use, they always offer to fit the customer's parts. In general the customer's parts are normally superior. Eg someone will want Mobil1 oil or Brembo brakes. Garages normally fit the cheap stuff to increase their profits.
You'd be first to have sneering comment on if some garage did put top end stuff unnecessarily on some old car.1 -

My air con compressor failed and my local independent wanted to use his preferred supplier, £380 plus fitting and regas +vat, about £530 all in. Eurocarparts £115inc vat. Total for fitting and regas including my brand new compressor £265. Car only worth about £500 but nothing worth buying out there at the moment so stuck with it.
