Buying ex's share of the house

Can anyone please give me a really simple guide to buying my ex's share the house?
My ex has started the process of buying a new house, I have started the process of getting a mortgage. This morning he told me he was getting a solicitor to draw up an agreement for me to sign stating that I would pay him his money on the same day he completes on his new house (he doesn't have a date for this). I said absolutely not because I don't want to risk being liable for the chain collapsing if something goes wrong with my mortgage.
I have suggested I pay him and have the deeds put in my name, plus an agreement he can continue to live here for up to 14 weeks afterwards but he said that was utterly awful and unreasonable.
What do we do?

We have never been married. We have 3 children together. Ex has agreed to sell me his share of the house and he is buying a new house. We all currently live in the house.

Lots of questions: Were you/are you married?
Did you ever live in the property?
Do you have children together?
How is he selling without your agreement or involvement?
Are you a joint/part owner of the property?
If you are a joint owner, whether you are married or not, you need to have a say in whether it needs to be sold, now or in the future, if one of you can move in and live there, who pays the mortgage and how much of a share of proceeds you are both getting.

The first task is to try and secure a mortgage in solely your name. Can you afford the house?Your ex can plan all he wants but if you cannot take over the property all his plans get knocked on asvyou then have to try and sell.I would speak to a broker about if you can afford to take on the house as a starting point.May you find your sister soon Helli.

We have never been married, together 18yrs, 3 children together.
Ex has agreed to sell me his share of the house (which we own together outright)
He has found a new house and started the process of buying it.
We currently all live in the house, ex is selling me his share so the children and I can continue to live in it.Debt was £15,903 😬 Now £2718.14 £0 😲🥳1 -
You own the house 50/50 and you are joint tenants on the deeds ?
Where will the 3 children you had together stay ? With you ?
Can you get a mortgage to pay him his share in the property ?
Now if you were a stay at home mum looking after 3 children while your EX went to work and paid into a company pension and earns much more than you then you need to speak to a family solicitor.
He maybe able to afford a bigger mortgage than you.

How far have you progressed in remortgaging the property to buy him out? Seems easiest if he vacates once the money is paid across. The completion date of his purchase isn't your concern.0

@dimbo61 the children will stay here with me. He has pensions and savings, I have debts from raising our 3 kids, no pension, no savings 😅

Has your mortgage broker applied for the mortgage? Have you identified a solicitor and engaged them re the transfer to sole tenancy?If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0
