The LG 50UP81006LR or 43UP81006LR may suit you and are both less than £400 at John Lewis amongst others. They have 3 hdmi connections, freeview play plus a freesat tuner should you have a satellite dish.

Sound quality is said to be reasonable given that it's a slim TV.

You can get scart to hdmi converters but be aware that you need a power supply to run these.

Don't want to get too technically boring here....

43" and 50" screens are different. 43" is IPS; 50" is VA.

If I was interested in picture quality, I would possibly include the Hisense U7QF 50" in my shortlist: https://hisense.co.uk/tvs/all-tvs/u7qf/

Quantum Dot Colour, Full Array Local Dimming....

Important details such as brightness level/contrast and colour gamut are conspicuous by their absence with the basic LG models....for good reason.

Not the same model, but gives you an idea: https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/lg/up8000https://www.techweekmag.com/reviews/tv/lg-up8100-review/

Your current TV looks to have small bezels already.

Going from very old to modern many get the benefit of conversion of bezel space to screen space absorbing some of the size increase.

Can you say that again in English please? :D

They said old (lcd) tv's had lot's of plastic around the screen. Also depending on when you got the massive front facing speakers (which is missed). I went from 41 to 50 inch lg and it is around the same size (worse sound but good enough since i missed out that silly annoy the nieghbours back facing speakers).

The current TV has approx 7mm 'plastic around the screen' each side
    We don't have neighbours :D
that's what I said you don't so comments where people did don't count for your change.

Would still look at 55" for 12' viewing.

What sort of space is it going in?

Hmm - both the same price at Richer Sounds.
Sadly SWMBO is suggesting that the bigger one is too big  :D ... how to persuade her otherwise? :/

Will sit on our 760h x 760w two drawer 'antique' (?) unit with all the sky/dvd/vcr boxes on the floor below in the corner of our 3.7x7m lounge (which is sort of split 60/40 with sofas at the bigger end and desk/dresser at t'other)

How much space do you have above the unit (width)?
    E.g. not in an alcove?

And check that the stand/feet of the new TV fit on the 760mm unit.
Some TVs have wide stands, or feet at each end.

get electronic items off the floor.
They will get blocked with dust.

If you want to keep it there on that unit you have limited options.

Does that window get direct sunlight?

    What's the curtain doing?

Is that a soundbar any sub or rears?

Is there not a better space to put the TV, corners were great for CRT that were deep.

Lowest one is a VCR - cost a fiver, we have another spare!  :D

Left  = yes, right  = no

    What's the curtain doing?
Don't people use them to 'dress windows'? ;)

    No soundbars
