All new TVs must use less than 1W in standby (regulations from EU).

    That's £2  - £3 per year.

On a high ticket item like a TV, choosing based on reducing standby from 1W is likely to compromise something else.

How far away are you sitting

    Tape measure says 12'
55" would be worth considering its a sweet spot on value as well.

Plenty of TV still have off buttons.
Often hidden on the side or back where the manual  controls are

That 50" LG mentioned earlier has one.

Whatever you do don't short change yourself....Go for the best 55" your budget will stretch to, especially at 12 feet. As someone else stated, you will always wish you went larger in a very short while.

From the Richer Sounds spec sheet ....
    Power Consumption - Standby - 0.5

Your current TV looks to have small bezels already.

Going from very old to modern many get the benefit of conversion of bezel space to screen space absorbing some of the size increase.

Budget for a sound system if you don't already have something you can use.

This one that @Neil49 quoted earlier, still looks best value in my limited experience ...

They said old (lcd) tv's had lot's of plastic around the screen. Also depending on when you got the massive front facing speakers (which is missed). I went from 41 to 50 inch lg and it is around the same size (worse sound but good enough since i missed out that silly annoy the nieghbours back facing speakers).

Yeah so not much room to go larger without  knowing. 50 inch then if you ask me ;-) (maybe your old tv has depth though, new ones do not" It was hard to lift my old 40inch by myself the 50inch is no issue!).

Be nice not the have neighbours! Garden is too small here!
