Postman has been (he seems to get later and later, but he's such a cheerful chap that I'd never complain).
He brought the Council Tax Bill which has gone up by £50 this year, and with it the news of the £150 rebate so the overall effect isn't quite as awful but of course, there is unlikely to be another rebate next year.
He also brought one of my three extravagances for the month - the Good Housekeeping Basic Cookery In Pictures, dated 1954. My mother was given a copy of the first edition of this as a wedding present in 1952 and as a girl, I loved poring over its pages and dreaming that MY wedding cake might be as beautiful as the one in the book, with all of the step-by-step embellishments so clearly demonstrated. When mum and dad celebrated their 25th, I used this book to bake their celebration cake, though it certainly wasn't as elaborately iced as any of those shown!
I also have the Good Housekeeping Complete Book of Preserving (1981) and a facsimile copy of Mr Middleton's 1945 Dig for Victory All Year Round Gardening Guide on order - all second hand, naturally and not horribly expensive. I love my Kindle for ubercheap/free reads, but there is nothing like having a real book in your hands.12 -
Morning all, ended up going to pick up DGS from DS2s with DS1 so we could take him to school as he was taking DGD ( her Nana usually takes her & is still on hols)Have to get him after school too ready for footie training. We decided to come home by the 'scenic' route over the moorland roads. It was gorgeous & reminds me how lucky I am to be 10 mins from the hills & I shall remind myself of that when I moan about the town centre! Bit of cloud coming over now thoughIzzy so sorry the doc couldn't help youSnoozer - Happy Birthday, hope you have a lovely day xxTea last night was gammon, egg & chips for the men, I had asparagus and broccoli instead of chips, as like you Nan I am working hard to lose weight & it's not shifting as quick as I'd like! It's about 9 week until the wedding in Greece
I've just had 2 dresses delivered and they are a bit snug. I think they were shipped from Singapore and took weeks to arrive so I'm not sending them back, just hope 2 more months makes a dent in my belly
Might go out for a walk now actually, up my steps a bit! Also just had the ingredients delivered to make a low carb loaf so will do that too!

Morning
Very quick update from me
snoozer happy birthday lovely lady I hope you have the best day xx
Well mum update is that she's now in hospital after a frustrating day trying to convince them to take her in and assess her. She kept insisting she was fine I rang the ambulance at 2pm and they finally came at 11.30. They didn't want take her as the hospital is so busy but finally decided she did need it. Sadly she still on A+E as they had no medical beds. She won't eat or drink and seems to be really struggling with swallowing even water
I didn't get home till 3am and then couldn't sleep so feeling grim this morning but hoping once she's seen the consultant I will know more.
Sorry its short and not so sweet. But I'm keeping up with your news where I can x15 -

Thank you everyone, we've just been for a bike ride and we're going for a meal out tonight. Steve got me a new dressing gown at my request, it's a replica of my old one which has lasted about 12 years in a lovely velour.
Nelski, I shall keep you and your mum in my thoughts.
Crystal ended up in A&E yesterday. She rang the midwife who told her to go to the GP who sent her to hospital. She was told it would be a 4 to 6 hour wait and Chris couldn't stay with her which I think is wrong when a pregnancy is involved. She finally saw an obstetrician who was cross the midwife hadn't told her to go straight into the maternity unit. Anyway, all seems fine thank goodness and she had a little less than a 4 hour wait.12 -
NELS so sorry to read your post. I hope today brings some help and answers for you xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"9

Snoozer - Happy Birthday.
nannywindow/Gers - I stopped wearing the type with wire and find the bras in £land very comfy. I used to buy expensive bras in Debenha..
- Sorry to hear about your mum.
The evidence of the Saharan sand is on cars today. We went shopping - not been to Al.. for 16 days - noticed some price rises. Stocked up my Easter fund raising chocolates stash in Al.. and from As.. on the way home.
Not feeling too good today - touch of Cysitis.
We enjoyed the black pudding dinner yesterday and I baked a marble cake. I baked it in a loaf tin liner - usually bake in a round tin. Cake cost 75p to make and weighed 1lb 4 ounces before we taste tested. You can get a Maderia cake in Aldi for 85p but it only weighs 10 ounces so half the weight of my bake and has 16 ingredients including some that I have never heard of - at least I know what is in my cake. We had a slice of cake with a cuppa after shopping - the Tupperware lid is from the 1970s.

I know what you mean about the ingredients in shop-bought products - I guess that's why the best before date on some of them is so worryingly long!
I've been baking merrily since we moved down here 8 years ago and made friends with a lovely smallholder and his wife who raise sheep, pigs, and chickens. He comes down every Thursday with our eggs and sits and chats with DH over a cup of tea and a piece of my latest bake, then takes some back for them both to have later. I get to indulge my love of baking and also get to spread the love a bit which means no cake is ever left behind, LOL.11 -
Wondering how long the journey would take to Kent and Devon from Suffolk!
I used to love cakemaking and DH loved the results .Since he died last year I’ve mostly stopped as I really need to lose weight and would just eat them .
Do miss it though9
