Strange hot cross bun & Easter egg flavours

We bought some today. I love hot x buns and I am a real cheese freak but together? Not sure. I’ll toast one tomorrow and see.[Deleted User] said:M&S do some cheese ones. I'm not sure how I feel about that.

I do like the old fashioned ones with a nice bit of spice and lots of fruit. Hubby made some recently and they were nice but a bit heavy compared with shop bought. I suppose you could say they were money saving as we had all the ingredients in the store cupboard.JosephK said:Aye, there's an ever increasing number of strangely flavoured buns, many of which bear little resemblance to that described. Other than a good quality fruit and spice one, most, to me, would be described by just one flavour - "dire." But then Mrs K often, and probably justifiably, calls me, among other things, old-fashioned.
By the way, among the increasingly exotic Easter eggs, has anyone seen a hot cross bun flavoured variety? Our local garden centre has a brilliant cafe with a deli attached. Today they had some marzipan in the shape of hot x buns complete with cross. I was going to buy some as he loves marzipan but they were expensive and very small so I saw the light and didn’t buy them.

Apparently, according to Good Housekeeping, Prestat is the Queen’s chocolate of choicepumpkin89 said:
Prestat (definitely not MSE!) did one in previous years, but it hasn't returned, so I assume it wasn't very popular.JosephK said:

We found some gin & tonic curd today reduced from very expensive to fairly expensive. They also had Turkish delight curd.Rosa_Damascena said:
A couple of Christmases ago they brought out a G&T variety of crisps. It was not a good product.JosephK said:Just spotted a hot cross bun flavoured gin advertised by Aldi.
Glad I'm not a gin drinker!
This evening I sampled the following (at 75% off) and can recommend them:
. Hubby bought one of each, I expect it will sit in the fridge once it’s opened, until it grows furry bits. 1 -
Hot x. buns used to be available around Easter and were a lovely treat. They are now available most of the year so not so much a treat. So the manufacturers have come up with lots of weird and wonderful flavours at Easter to make us part with our moneyp00hsticks said:MSE_James said:No - but it looks similar to Warburtons all year round fruit loaf, which we enjoy(the variety with orange is very good as well)
. Am I just being cynical? 3 -
I am sensing much prejudice against the humble HCB.Murphybear said:

Tried a hot cross bun loaf from Sainsburys as Asda dont seem to have them this year. Normal flavour but stodgy and not a patch on Asdas. So made it into a fancy bread and butter pud (Mary berry recipe, uses double cream) adapted with raisins soaked in brandy. Yum.
Have to say wouldn't bother with fancy flavours though, the normal flavour is good enough for me.1 -

They are really good, I order one every weekClowance said:Tried a hot cross bun loaf from Sainsburys as Asda dont seem to have them this year. Normal flavour but stodgy and not a patch on Asdas. I was in Lidl this morning & decided to treat myself to a pack. Just about to pick up one of the 79p packs of 6 when I noticed some (BBE today) reduced to 20p. Then I saw a selection of the luxury (fruited, & apple & cinnamon) also reduced to 20p. With so many on the shelf it seemed rude not to, so the freezer is even fuller with 3 or 4 packs of them. I always warm then in the microwave anyway, so even if they are a bit stale they'll soon soften up.3
