Central Heating Oil prices...

Last week, I bought 500 liters at a cost of £381 (76.2p/liter)
Today, looking for oil for mum, the cheapest I could find oil was 500
liters for £740 (£1.48/liter) Now, that's a 94% rise in one week.
(Northern Ireland has the highest rate of oil usage for heating in Western Europe for historical reasons)
Are we now just being blatantly fleeced, or are those prices similar to the mainland?

Just checked forum rules and apparently I'm not allowed to swear LOL That would be £2800 to full my tank. When I 1st moved here (admittedly a few years back now!), it cost £1400 -
It partly depends on where you are looking. Many of the aggregators as wildly inflated at the moment. That and many are artificially inflating the price as they want to put people off as their order books already go out over a month due to panic buying.
Price from a local supplier today is 104ppl although delivery would be near easter.
Hopefully as Opec countries make more announcements that they will fill the supply gap from Russia the price will at least drop to something more tolerable.0 -
In 4 decades of ordering oil, it's rarely taken more than a week, and usually just 2 to 3 days. Like I said, here (in NI) we have a robust infrastructure for delivery as it is so commonly used in most households. Even last week I got my delivery 2 days after order (no deliver premium) Oil delivery lorries are almost as common as Amazon vans LOLCan't see many here 'panic' buying at these prices.... now, if it were toilet rolls, now you're talking!0

The price hike is headline news here. Just discovered...While only 4% of UK homes overall still rely on domestic home heating oil, it is the sole source of heat for 68% of households in Northern Ireland, and unlike gas and electricity in NI, it is unregulated. So that'll be why this thread is so quiet LOL

On boiler juice yesterday 500l was £999 in Nottinghamshire for standard delivery in 2 weeks. £1043 for five-day. Up from about £ 300 bout 3 weeks ago.
I know of some who got the cheaper price then boiler juice had "an administrative error", cancelled their order then suggested if they wanted delivery they would have to pay the higher price.1 -

No one in NI ever has to wait 2 x weeks for a delivery, but after learning that only 4% of mainland homes use oil, I can now understand why the service is normally so poor. If any company here said it would take them two weeks, they'd be met with a severe, "catch yoursel on..." LOL

I last bought oil in January, but thought I'd have a look at prices around here in rural Wales.
Looking on the Boiler Juice website, I get 'due to demand we are unable to offer any deliveries in your area'
Looking on a couple of local suppliers websites, they show deliveries likely to be weeks away and will not offer a price quote. Order oil and when they are ready to deliver they will give a price at that time.

As I said, 70% of homes in NI rely on heating oil, the price is simply beyond me ordering, I now just wear winter clothing indoors with a scarf & hat - it's headline news here on every bulletin....Belfast Telegraph - oil prices soar...

We topped up with 500 litres last week - we're in Devon and though we have a log burner, we have no other means of heating water than our combi-boiler. On Saturday 5th March, we were quoted £1.32/l including VAT by Boilerjuice. We ordered that afternoon from our local independent supplier and got it for £1.03/l incl VAT. Our previous order in November was £0.60/l
By Tuesday 8th (the day after our oil was delivered), Boilerjuice was quoting £2.10/l incl VAT
Today's price from Boilerjuice is £1.29/l incl VAT.
Talking to a neighbour on Wednesday, she said that she had ordered her oil and her (local) supplier told her that they would phone her before her delivery to tell her how much it was going to be - if she then decided it was too high, they would cancel the order for her without any problem.0
