Oh dear sorry to hear about the smoke alarm and I bet the cat was very frightened. Glad the bread went eventually!Save £20,000 in 2025. April 2k, May 3.5k4

Thanks Earthie! Unfortunately, while I’d disconnected it from the mains, it had a battery back up so had continued all morning - neighbour texted client who texted me. Further investigation required, a bit of YouTube and collecting Mr MV to sort it out necessary. Poor cat was visibly shaking when I found her. Have left her with fresh food, some treats and peace! Owners extremely apologetic! (But house is new to them, so they had no idea about it!)Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Oh my word! Poor you, poor cat! That really sounds horrendous - understandable, since the house is new to them, but wow. They definitely know you're on the case, at any rate - and they really, really should leave a good review for you. Make that "fantastic review".2023: the year I get to buy a car5

Gosh what a palaver all round with the alarm! Glad nothing was amiss though. Hope the poor kitty recovers in time.4

I agree, what a palaver! And that has nudged me - I don't remember testing the smoke alarms here since Christmas... a little task for DH to do while I am out with my friend.Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

The mains wired smoke alarms still need replacing every 10 years or so. We had to do at least one of ours last year for similar reasons.

Morning all (just!),
The smoke alarm was indeed a palaver... but we got there in the end and kitty was much happier on Saturday morning. Hi SH! The alarm doesn't expire until 2027 - the things I know about other people's houses! 😂
We've had a busy weekend. Saw some friends for lunch on Saturday - 3 hour round trip in the mini (was great fun!) and baby cuddles with a very cheery little chappy. Popped to the allotment in the evening very briefly - to measure for some more roofing felt. Yesterday we went to the in-laws to continue with clearing the garage - progress made and things on Ebay and Freegle (also things on Freegle from Dad's and the allotment shed - keeping track of everything is chaotic!).
Then I spent some time at the allotment yesterday (discovered something has dug up two of my asparagus crowns 😥 - have replanted, but they looked pretty dead, so am hoping to find a couple of replacements, although it's not looking promising - Wilkos maybe?). I think I have a lot to learn about pest control! We have a very sheltered urban garden so have never needed to worry about much more than slugs - that's not going to be the case at the allotment. I did get given some horticultural fleece by FIL from the garage, so that's gone on top of the asparagus bed to encourage the remaining ones to come up and the pests to go elsewhere. While I was down there, Mr MV cut the grass, played with the mini, and tidied the utility. I planted some peas (undercover) and have leek seedlings just showing their faces (also in greenhouse). I need to get my potatoes in... I'm procrastinating about this and I'm not sure why - the cardboard partly, but I need to get on with it. Also discovered my Dad is now away in May, so not sure who is going to look after my seedlings - the cat sitters (both sets) are better at looking after cats than plants!
MS things:
* Batch cooked 6 portions of chilli last night - had two for dinner, so two easy dinners in the freezer now
* Have bought various clothes on Ebay - just needed a few bits for holiday - much cheaper than new! Also ordered the required roofing felt - just the right amount.
* Olio collection of bananas, bread and peppers last night; hot x buns and hotdog rolls today (we're having a BBQ on Easter Monday for MIL's birthday)
* Clicks done
* Didn't win on the National - but had £1e/w on Any Second Now, so didn't lose all the money in our PP account - which gets used once a year and usually any winnings just stay there for next year!
* Returned the key for lovely evening cat and have potential 3 weeks' work in August there
* Collecting keys for next week's cats on Wednesday (combined with last visit to AM cat) and Saturday mornings (I have Thurs, Fri, Sat and Sun off and I'm looking forward to it!)
* Mr MV has found an app for passport photos (for IDP for USA) - should be about £4 printed for both of us - much better than £8 each in a photo booth!
Gratitudes:
* Work
* Potential work from an irregular client
* Sunshine
* Leek seedlings!

Afternoon all,
Haha @try_harder! They aren't that common here (Herts people must buy more of them?).
Busy, busy with a work deadline looming today and then several other bits of work tooTomorrow is going to be particularly mad though, with Olio collection, final morning cat visit (I was mauled by a miniature tiger this morning - I really don't understand her!), key collection for next week's cat sitting, popping to town (while I'm out) for several bits and more work!
I have a drs appointment at 1.30, so at least I'll get a walk in today.
MS things:
* Dinner last night was sausage and mash - using up some sprouty potatoes and a couple from the allotment. Tonight's will be risotto (if I finish work at a reasonable hour) or maybe takeaway (if I don't - I'll let Mr MV sort this though). As meat sausages usually live in the freezer, I normally cook them in the oven to know they're cooked through - instead I defrosted in the microwave and fried them - avoided the oven again. I'm really getting to grips with using the microwave to its full potential now!
* Lunch will be something on toast as I've got bread out of the freezer. (Beans or egg I think - there's no cheese)
* Washing done overnight on 7p/kWh electricity (spun this morning) and will be dried on the line
* Clicks done
Gratitudes:
* Several bits of work and moving forward with the thing for my friend's colleague
* Sunshine
* Hot x buns
Have a good day all!
