Stop Sell - Plusnet/John Lewis Broadband

Try 1Mbps! It is indeed another universe to have FTTP. Reliability, stability and of course sheer speed. It's a game changer. And I hope that it is made available to all as soon as possible. It's revolutionary.Fidden said:
Especially if you're 5km from the exchange... From 3 to 500 Mbps was a revelation with no dropouts any more!HaroldWren5 said:
I agree. The difference between FTTP and FTTC is like night and day. FTTP is so much more stable, reliable and over time the broadband packages have been far better value for money as well.Fidden said:If FTTP is available to you, take it over FTTC. It allows you to scale to a much faster speed (over time if you don't need more at this time) and saves further disruption down the road when the cabinet is at capacity closer to 2025, when OR realise they've not provided sufficient capacity for the local area.0 -
Plusnet and Now are BT’s and Sky’s no frills services respectively. That’s no doubt why they are later offering FTTP although Sky were very also very late offering FTTP under the Sky brand.WillPS said:Seems a little cynical for BT group to be offering a BT and EE branded FTTP service (expensive) but not a Plusnet one. Thanks for the help all.1 -
You probably wont be able to, given that Now BB is provided by Sky who will want them also to move off from FTTC to FTTP in the near future. You may get another year on FTTC with them but I'd guess that will be all.WillPS said:littleboo said:That's the point of stop sell, to get people off of copper based services so they can be retired, otherwise copper will be here for ever.I understand - but surely there should be some sort of equivalent product offered? If not, what would happen if I just stayed with Now indefinitely?1 -
LLU and FTTC, which the OP is on, are two completely different things. If the OP wants to get similar, up to 80/20, speeds at the same cost then he has no choice but to stick with Now or move to an FTTP provision.Richard_T_ said:I'm an Ex plusnet customer, moved to Now due to plusnet contract ending and plusnets unwillingness to offer anything approaching a competitive deal upon renewal. There has been plenty of talk on how plusnet will launch an FTTP product, and they even had a trail running since 2010 of which some people are still on.But every time they said it was going to launch, the date has slipped and it now appears to be in the sometime maybe perhaps never category. If you are happy with FTTC then there could still be a few/another option open to you:Now TV broadband runs on Skys LLU platform, LLU means Local Loop unbundled .Plusnet, and a few other ISPs use the openreach network all the way the phone line is maintained by openreach and for want of a better word the box it ends up in at the exchange / street cabinets openreach, and openreach sell a wholesale product to the ISPsWith LLU the wires from your property are Openreach, but the bits where they terminate ( ie at the exchange) will belong to the ISP, such as Sky, or Talk talk .So while Plusnet may turn you down, you could try another LLU provider such as Talk talk, or Sky and see what happens.0
