300% increase in bill not 54% with SSE

Hi i am currently with SSE and pay about £180 a month we over pay as we noticed when we got a hot tub that the usage went up.. We since no longer switch on the hot tub and now have over £500 in credit..

We are on the Greener H1 tariff atm.. Our deal ends in MAY 2022.. We are currently getting quotes from £657 - £780 a month..

We are in a 3 bed bungalow. We do have a log cabin in the garden but that isn't used for 6 months of the year and is basically a tv room. And the hot tub is OFF and i doubt will ever go back on with the prices the way they are.

We have 3 TVs..

WE had prepared ourselves for the hike in prices but that is 300% hike which is more than our mortgage.

We aren't entitled to any help as we do earn too much.. My thoughts are if we earn too much how are the people that don't earn as much going to cope when we are struggling..

We don't have lavish lifestyle and everything really goes on the kids and they dont even get what id like to give them as i pay £190 a week in child maintenance. ( the child maint situation is complicated as i work offshore)

What's everyone else experience?

When / or if will the government step in properly and help !! Surely this cannot be a long term thing as it will cause 'ENERGY POVERTY' at all ends of the income spectrum.

Ignore the projected monthly DD cost, it''s almost meaningless.
What is your Estimated Annual Consumption for gas and electricity? It will be shown on your bill.
When did you get your hot tub, and when did you stop using it?

That is an increase in the DD payment, not the bill.
The DD is calculated on the basis of estimated usage, your bill is based on your actual usage.
If you have made some significant changes in your use then the estimates will be wrong.
Work out your best estimate of what you will actually use over the next year and then calculate the real cost using the tariff details (kWh/Standing charges) then you will have a better idea of the actual monthly DD...

The only way for you to determine what your energy charges will be for the 12 months from when your current deal ends is to calculate how much energy you use in a year using meter readings from 12 months ago and from now . If you do nothing you will revert to supplier's standard variable tariff which comes into effect on 1 April. I am with SSE for gas at the moment, with a unit rate of 3.11p/kWh and a daily rate of 16.7p, a year's gas cost me £472.48. Their SVR from 1 April is 7.34p/kWh and 27.2p/day, so my gas will cost £1,071.
Even though you are with Scottish Power, not SSE, the SVR for gas will be much the same, as the SVR are capped by OFGEM. Perform your calculations for both gas and electricity, and work out how much per month to offer your supplier.

Those figures you're being quoted sound like fixed deals- and fixes are eye wateringly pricey right now. What would your annual cost be if you just rolled onto the variable rate?

There was a similar thread re hot tubs that are being switched off.

What consumption figures are you using ? - the figures SP are using will include when the hot tub was being used -  say 10,000 KWH a year. In practise it may well be nearer 4,000 KWh without that hot tub - that's what you should use - but be prepared for a shock in any case

Have you got any actual meter reads fir a few months without that hot tub being used ?
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

As others have said find the previous 12 months readings, if this includes usage of the hot tub then find the next month that you didn't use it and what you saved by not using the tub. The extra usage for the hot tub months you can knock off the usage if you're never going to use it again.
The hot tub usage could be a large part of the estimated usage for the next 12 months. Personally I turn everything off that's not in use the only appliances left on 24/7 are the fridge freezer and router everything else is turned off, my appliances are not the latest tech on the market but I save about £15 per month turning everything off, standby mode uses more power than people think as some appliances are connected to the internet 24/7,
Someone please tell me what money is

Do you you have a large property? Gas is very high, as is electricity, but can be explained by the hot tub.
