When does night rate start?

It was Octopus when we moved in. Went to BG as I had them at old address and they said if I stayed with them I would get a years home cover free, yes I know it isn't worth much and have cancelled the auto renewal.
BG won't give a quote to switch to till nearer the end of current deal.
There is an old smart meter which is not very smart and I give meter readings manually every month.0 -
If you don't have any E7 switched circuits, you are likely to be safe setting the washing machine to start between 1am and 3am. Why not give it a go and then check the meters the following daty to see if the cheap rate consumption has increased by more than normal?knightstyle said:Yes I know this and will switch to a single tariff when the deal ends at end of July. But I inherited the E7 when we moved last year and with moving, covid etc. was too busy to change it then, Not worth changing now as no one can get near the 10.4 and 22.5 p/wkh I am getting till then.

Yes that is what we planned to do but wanted to be sure of timings before getting a time clock as we go to bed well before that time.0

OP stated they have an old smart meter in the first post. It's the switching of the E7 circuits that is the problem because of the aformentioned inability/unwillingness to make changes to customer SM settings. If the OP's SM is dual-register then (I presume) it should still record two sets of numbers per whatever the switching times were previously set toEssexHebridean said:
If the OP is with BG on E7 they likely don't have a smart meter, judging by feedback from others on the subject.coffeehound said:
Do you know who was the supplier when you moved in? BG don't make changes to smart meter settings it would seem, so It'll still be set to what it was previously. Watching the meter is the only way to know for sure these daysknightstyle said:nothing like that, just gas for heating and hot water. Wanted to know the times so we can put washing machine etc on the cheap rate.
We are on that tariff after moving last year and previous owners had E7 or similar.

Makes sense - thanks for clarifying as I'd missed the earlier reference to the smart meter.coffeehound said:

OP - other things you might want to think about. If you have an electric shower, trying to use that on the tail end of the cheap rate. Use timeswitches to do things like phone charging during the right times. If you are up ahead of the rate changing in the morning then consider making your first kettle-boil a full one, and transfer any excess into a flask. You can then either use directly from the flask for coffee, or pour back into the kettle at just the right amount as needed for tea. Some of this stuff is definitely in the realms of small changes, but still over a year potentially worth doing.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

The thing that might be a worry is if the previous Octopus tariff was say 'Go' with only 3 or 4 or 5 hours off-peak, and the meter was still giving that amount of off-peak. Again, watching the times the display changes rate would be worth doingknightstyle said:It was Octopus when we moved in.
