So we have a BG dual fuel contract and the electric is on a day/night tariff but I cannot find what time the rate changes. There is an old Liberty Secure smart meter but it does not work and I have to submit meter readings every month.

I'd ask BG to give you the definitive answer. Is your day/night tariff an economy 7 one or something aimed at charging an electric car? If it's the former, do you use gas or electricity for heating?

Knightstyle, really you need watch the time at which the meter changes rates, which is indicated on the display.  Presumably it is from somewhere between 11pm and 01am

As others have said, the nominal times vary by region but the *actual* times can vary from property to property.
The best way is to check the meter, or check the red neon light on the fused spur switch for eg. your E7-connected immersion heater.

I've got an old electricity E7 meter. Currently 23.37 - 06.37. I presume it's drifted 7 minutes over the years.

No, it's intentional to avoid problems if everyone's storage heaters et al turned on at 23:30:00.  There's a tolerance of +/ 15 minutes.

Thanks everyone, I did ask BG but have not had a reply.  This is the tariff and I don't feel like standing out in the rain to see when the meter switches over.
I think I have the cheapest electricity available till July!
