Move from disgusting energy supplier

in Energy
Following the failure of Green Energy we were moved to Shell Energy (at the time I didn't even know they were in the domestic gas and electricity business!) No real problems with them until I heard the news that they have continued to purchase Russian oil. Now I want to leave them as quickly as possible (and it will be a cold day in hell when I buy petrol or diesel from them again).
There are no deals but anyone know if the big suppliers will still take transfers?

I'd try Octopus but you'll need to phone them rather than simply being able to switch via their website.
It is possible to switch to Scottish Power via their website but only onto VERY expensive 'fixed' tariffs that they can end any time they choose to with 42 days notice.0 -

I'd like to see you filter out the Russian oil or gas that's coming through your pipes or pumped into your car. You were more than happy to buy it all from them a couple of weeks ago wherever it came from at a price you were prepared to pay.
Once the stuff from Russia gets completely shut off then you should be prepared for massively higher prices and shortages of both gas and oil/petrol.
If we had a plan and were more self suffiicient then it wouldn't be a problem but we don't have a pan, we aren't self sufficient and so it will be a problem.
Perhaps it wasn't such a grand ide to shut down all the coal fired power stations, close down and not replace them, block up the the fracking holes, give up storing gas and stop exploration in the sea around Scotland.
I'm guessing that your righteous indignation extends to stuff from China because of their human rights recordNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers5 -

Amusing seeing everyone pipe up, just because it's the current social media topic right now. Thoughts & prayers, everyone!
It's everyone's right to boycott I guess though, (despite how stupid & two-faced it is due to the above), however it's interesting that with the energy market it's almost impossible, due to how supply is managed. Bit easier to see "country of origin" for other stuff, and make informed choices.1 -
Absolutely agree, almost all suppliers use a mix of wholesale fuels but the others mentioned here are in the process of disposing of their interests. Massive increases in fuel charges and shortages are coming anyway - I'm old enough to remember the power cuts in the 70s, we can survive that - but the immediate situation that doesn't compare to what the Russian government are inflicting on Ukraine.
It is not my intention to start a great debate on the rights and wrongs of multinational business practices, I merely want to do what I feel is right.0 -
You can switch to EDF's capped SVT but only if you phone them, and their customer service isn't the best.0

Well, if you can afford to do that, and are honest enough to maintain similar personal sanctions on purchasing goods or commodities with links to all countries with similarly dubious moral links, then good for you. I can understand some of the attacks in the posts above - there are a lot of people out there virtue signalling about such things at the moment. You’re probably wrong about us being able to survive power cuts in the same way we did in the 70’s though. We have a lot more reliance on electricity these days - not least as almost nobody can heat their homes without at least some reliance on electric. There are also higher numbers of folk now reliant on electricity for home medical equipment. Add into the mix that many people now rely on a working internet connection for their landline phone to work, and almost nobody has a phone box at the end of the road any more, there may well be emergency situations that mean that folk quite literally may not survive lengthy power outages.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

People only seem to be bothered when town halls get lit up, etc etc.
Pretty much impossible anyways with energy, it's not like you're buying the stuff direct from a country. Trying to boycott companies that do deals with others is never going to work, too. Sure you could not buy a company's products because it says "Made in xxx" on it, however it may not say that, but that company is using a shedloads of machines to manufacture them, and those machines were "made in xxx", you'll never know, yet you're still "funding" it.0
