Given Shell when my fuel company went bust but they are giving money to Russian Oil?

Am I able to change company when I think their ethics stink on this?

You can always change your supplier, its your decision on who you choose to supply your energy.

However dont be surprised if other suppliers are significantly more expensive, especially if you have a fixed deal or push you towards a smart meter.

Being green or being ethical isn't necessarily going to be cheap, but its your choice

What specifically are you referring to in the thread title?

    Are you aware of this?

    Thanks.

The question that arises is to what extent other UK energy companies may be buying Russian oil or gas currently.

@juliebanana you best bet for a company that may take you right now may be Octopus Energy, although I don't know the answer to my previous question re. them.

Of course, although many are not taking on new customers.

All our energy is "contaminated" with Russian oil and gas, to an extent. Your best path to "purity" is to go all-electric, fit solar panels and batteries to produce as much "home grown" as you can, and buy a share in Ripple Energy windfarms, to green up the rest of your supply.

May I suggest that when we've all banned the import or oil and gas and refused to unload ships and stuff are we going to be happy to put up with the significant price rises and shortages.

Not that I support what is going on but we do need to understand what the consequence will be without having some sort of contingency plan.

We dont seem to be doing everso well at the moment in managing the supplies and costs, take away 10-15% or more of our supplies and it will only get worse,.

Indeed. Fundamentally we collectively need to use less energy. Concern about climate change regrettably seems to have failed to do this but maybe a mix of high price and a mindset of doing so being a form of anti-war effort may finally achieve this.
  • Thanks all for your comments. I think it was the hypocrisy that annoyed me most, given that I had read both the news items referred to in the links you posted. I switched to Green via the MSE energy group, and it went bust before I'd even received my first bill!

Can I ask another question? Have any of you had water meters installed and seen a reduction in your bills? Two of us in a 3 bed house, but I like a bath after I've been gardening and that is honestly what's stopping me.

Yes. I pay about £150 per year.

Clue: 25% of your water goes down the bog. Use bath water to flush the bog/water plants, as the larger part of your bill is the sewage charge. The less water you import, the lower your total bill.

    Rainwater can be an asset.
