I know what you mean! Keep up the good work though and remember the high you get from being debt free will be much better than that of a "crappy jumper"

    Good luck!

I know you are totally right but it's immediate satisfaction versus the long haul I suppose. I have a bit of an "I want it now" attitude and I need to get rid of that.

I blame it on my parents ;) I am an only child and never learned to share or to do without. I am getting better though especially now that I have to earn my own money.

Still waste way too much though.

  • Just got back from holiday! Been away for three weeks and spent about £400 - more than I would have liked but not too dramatic.

The good news is that I managed to scrape together the £664 for our property service charge and have just paid that now. The bad news is that i have to wait another 3 weeks to get paid and I only have £55 left until then. Also there is something very wrong with my car. So I hope it keeps going till then. I will need to be very careful with it.

Am now going to update my signature as I have paid a little off my debts.

    HAPPY NEW YEAR!

  • My total debt is now £5342.72 - I want to get that to under £5000 by next month. And I have another 9 months to pay this off - that means I need just under £600 per month.

My OH has now decided to get involved and has taken away all my cards. He has also decided on a budget of £20 per week for food. Until now we were spending up to £50-£70. This strict budget is only for this month as we have practically no money at all. Next month it will go to £30 and stay at that level until we are debt free.

If we are to spend anything over £5 we have to discuss it first so all money decissions will be joint.

When he was younger his mother had to handle a very tight budget and feed two kids so he knows how to do without. Compared to him I was a total spoiled brat. Now he is determined to teach me the value of money. He has done all kinds of charts to show me how many days every month I work to pay off debts. Very scary reading

  • :j I have my first star and am now a money saving convert:j

Okay I have been looking through the threads and have stolen a few ideas form other threads to make a list of Challenges for January:
    - Earn an extra £10 a day starting today ( I have just got a £10 voucher from Pizza Hut through Pigsback so not sure if I should include this
    - No spending at all on non-essentials
    - £20 per week on food
    - £45 per week on petrol (this will be very tight and
    - Sell computer - I have listed the computer on Amazon and will see how it goes. I have the lowest price but I am not sure how many people buy their computers on Amazon so I might try Ebay if this doesn't work.

If I do this then I will still have £75 left available on my Account at the end of the month (if there are no emergenices) that will go on my CC.

i am just so worried about my car. If I have to get it fixed I don't know how I am going to pay for it and I need to sell it in two months so it needs to be in good condition. Not even sure what the best way to sell it is.

  • OH lost his job last night as where he works was so quiet over xmas that they say they don't need him anymore. Now I need to find a way to come up with £750 by the end of the month to replace his wages. Have no idea how to do this. i don't have that much worth selling and if he doesn't get another job soon we won't be able to pay the bills at the end of the month.

We were also counting on his money to pay for food and petrol for the rest of the month. I have no idea what to do now.

  • Okay, I totally need to get my act together. I have exactly 24 days to come up with £750 to pay for all the bills that need to be payed on 1 Feb.

I have just put two box sets onto Amazon at the lowest price and when they sell I should make £50 profit (after postage and fees).

I also have a Sony computer for sale at £750 (will make £650 from it if it sells) - has only been up there for one day but hasen't had any interest yet so if I have nothing by the end of next week I will have to reduce the price.

I have an M&S sofa (loveseat) at home that I will advertise on some notice boards for £150.

Also a huge Bush TV that I will try and sell for £50.

Problem is none of this is certain and if I don't sell any of them I am s******

I have no other way of making that kind of money.

Hi wildchild, you're going great guns there! Good luck with the selling, it can be a hit or a miss.

I hope you don't mind my asking, but is it not possible for your OH to register with agencies and get some temp work, this is usually weekly paid, so could sort out your problem. Even if it was just catering or something, unless he has other skills, driving, IT etc?

Or if he's not working are there benefits you can claim? check the www.entitledto.co.uk website.
I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....
    (it's part of my charm!)

He will be going to some agencies tomorrow but the jobs they usually offer him need own transport which he has not got. I use my car to go to work in the countryside and the jobs he gets need him to go to the other side where there is industry. Last time we did this it cost us £150 on petrol every week. It was hardly worth it. I think I will go ound restaurants and hotels with him at the weekend.

Also we are leaving the country in March as we have both found good jobs abroad and it's annoying to have to make all that effort to find a new job for the few weeks we have left here. Once we get our new jobs we will be able to pay off our debts quite a lot faster (as long as the pound doesn't shoot up)

Also we will be selling the car next month so that will finance february and the move (I hope). i am just worried about the next lot of bills at the beginning of next month

As for benefits we are both "foreigners" and OH hasn't worked here long enough to claim benefits (I think) but I will check that out.

Well that was a bit of a mad rant wasn't it!?! :o

That sounds like a long way away to me.

Believe me, it will come around soon enough. I paid off £15,000 in 18 months, and the headway I made early on gave me the motivation to really knuckle down. I realised last July that if I spent next to nothing for six months, it'd be gone in December. It really is its own reward, and January's pay will be all the better knowing it doesn't belong to someone else.
