You can try to search your profile on Google and see if someone has mentioned it somewhere and that could be the place where  are coming from.
That is what I hate about social media
Other people can influence what I see and do on line
    Doesn't this break GDPR?

    GDPR is European law.
Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/whatever are not in Europe, they are US companies.
Yes but GDPR (or equivalent) still applies
"Facebook's UK users will remain subject to UK privacy law, which will still largely mirror the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). GDPR is among the world's strictest privacy regimes."

But by choosing not to disallow it in your settings is giving them permission

That is the whole point to this post - there is nowhere in settings to allow me to block friends requests
I know that you have already said this - but not on my account - its not there

You've already said you don't have any facebook friends and only use it to contact companies who don't use email.
Close your Facebook account and open a new one with a "throwaway" email address and set the security/privacy as high as you can. Then use that account.

Personally, I don't use Facebook and would never do business with a company who use it, and nothing else, for communications.
