You need to go through your friends list and look at which one has hundreds of strange friends then either get them to change their settings and unfriend these people or unfriend them yourself.I have only ever received a couple of weird friend requests.2

When I get a friend's request, it shows any people that are mutual friends.

Facebook is useful for interest/hobbies groups, local area groups etc. I use it far more for these kind of things than i do keeping in touch with friendsmarcia_ said:

I tend to use Twitter for communicating and Facebook for investigating things ....

You can try to search your profile on Google and see if someone has mentioned it somewhere and that could be the place where the request are coming from.
