Section 75- toy not as described

Hi all,

I’ve bought the Lego Technic Maclaren F1 car 2022 and used a credit card, it was well over £100.
it is advertised as the 2022 car and yes it is a Lego Technic model so I expected it to be abit more accurate compared to the 2022 car.

It is actually a mash up of the 2021 and 2022 car.

A casual builder won’t care but I think this is misleading packaging and advertising due to some of the issues on the build eg incorrect suspension, incorrect wheel width, incorrect sponsor details.

If I section 75- goods not as described/ not a good enough replica, I’d like a partial refund as I am partially satisfied with the goods.

Do I have a case?

thanks

Not clear if you mean you have received the 2022 car as Lego intend it to be but Lego haven't copied the real car well enough for your tastes or if what you've received is packing issue by Lego and the kit includes some incorrect bags?

Where did you buy it from?
    When did you receive it?

Why don't you go to the retailer fisrt and make the complaint to them.

Is this a secondary card from your parents account? You might need to get them to deal with it.

I got it from Smyths toys and received it first thing this morning.

Your first point, yes Lego did not copy it well enough- It is actually inaccurate. I get it is Lego and is just a toy, but I think it’s wrong to say it’s the 2022 car when it is not.

Best analogy I can give is it’s almost like they released the prototype and not the final product. It’s good quality just not the 2022 car.

If you read the press release at https://www.lego.com/en-us/aboutus/news/2022/february/lego-technic-mclaren-f1/ they spend much more time talking about copying the livery of the new car than being technically accurate with the likes of:

a fun and engaging product that celebrates our 2021 season livery while giving fans a hands-on interpretation of the new 2022 F1 car design

An "interpretation" doesn't suggest its a perfect copy.

Why go to the credit card rather than the retailer? I think with both you will have an uphill challenge to say its been falsely advertised.

I’m surprised that you expected it to be that close a copy of the 2022 car, given how secret the specifics of the real car are and how recently it’s been revealed.

The Lego car would have been in development/production last year, McLaren were hardly likely to release secret information on their new car.

As none of the F1 2022 cars have stopped being developed yet your toy will have no chance of being an accurate representation. It's a Lego toy car and as such their interpretation of it...you could maybe argue it's not a full size replica perhaps!

It's not a toy (and I suspect you well know that). It's aimed at adult hobbyists 18+ where kits for them reach hundreds of pounds. Model, is the more appropriate term for the kit.
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.

Why would I need to read the press release,  I believe these to be significant points on a model (not toy) and should be clearly stated on the box or description. I will ask the retailer.

Thanks, you have articulated the point a lot better than me.

Because the PR manages expectations that its not a perfect copy, in part for the reasons listed by others above,
