    Don't do it, they're awful.

    What are your 'needs'?
4.29kWp Solar system, 45/55 South/West split in cloudy rainy Cumbria.
  • I seem to remember a lot of bad reports about the company in the past.

  • So @dogmaryxx asks above "What about POP Telecom"?. @Spies says they're awful, @poppasmurf_bewdley says s/he may have heard some bad things in the past.

Not exactly objective, informed information is it. I've never heard of them so I looked them up on Trustpilot where they average 4.7. That's good isn't it? They have special deals for "Over 60's" , their speeds are faster than all their competitors and the price is fixed for life.

Openreach do all the installation and running the techie stuff, just like all the other providers.

Apart from some poor grammar and typos on their website why should I not swap my broadband to them and save a tenner a month?

Don't take my word for it. I suggest you enter POP Telecom in the search box of this page and see the results.  Hang on, I've done it for you:

No longer trust the reviews on trustpilot companies can get reviews removed for the most trivial reasons.

  • OK I've followed that link and read the threads and there are examples quoted of appalling customer service, dodgy billing and an inability to provide the contracted-for broadband.

I'm sure I could find similar examples involving any of the "big" providers. My point is that the customer's experience when switching providers seems to be a matter of blind luck. Most of the time it will be absolutely fine with no problems at all, sometimes it will be an utter balls.

How can a prospective customer really maximise their chances of an acceptable (at least) service provision? Look at MSE? Trustpilot? Elsewhere?

Or am I being naive? If you buy any product simply on price can you expect a greater chance of problems? Is the answer to simply contract with one of the "premium" suppliers?

With Telecoms, I think it's often a matter of luck.  I was a BT customer (then the Post Office) since 1965, but in about 2012 opted for a TalkTalk line with broadband, due to a much better pricing deal.  From the first day, it was subject to outages and poor speed, so much so that, after calls to the CEO's office, TT agreed to tear up the contract and I was back with BT within six weeks. But a friend of mine who lives near me has had TT for years without a problem. Yer pays yer money and makes yer choice!
