Does it make a difference that's it's a hybrid not full ev?

Might not be worth it, as the battery is much smaller, but on the other hand you could use the EV rate to charge a home battery and you could run things like the washing machine etc. that use large amounts of electricity. If you don't have mains gas it may be advantageous to heta the water via the immersion heater. I think the present Octopus Go rate is 7.5p/kWh.

That sounds like a legacy fixed-rate tariff. When does your fix end?
As stated above, once you have an EV you'll be eligible for EV tariffs. They might not be as cheap as your current fix but are likely to work out cheaper than the general market once your fix ends.
It's fixed until June 22. We've had the ev for 5 years now and never been on a ev plan . Does it make a difference that's it's a hybrid not full ev?
When your fix expires it's likely that you're best option from the general market will be the standard variable rate at 28p/kWh.
Currently, EDF are offering a tariff with an overnight "EV charging" slot at 4.5p/kWh plus all other use at 36p/kWh, while Octopus have one with a 7.5p/kWh charging slot and other use at 31p/kWh (tariffs from memory, I haven't checked today).

  • I don't think it'll be of any advantage going onto an EV rate at present as we are high electric users anyway around 8000 kWh a year (paying £130 month) 3 bed house 5 people (3 adults ,2 teenagers). We use a dishwasher , washer and a dryer every day. I'm trying to cut it down as with new rates coming in we will struggle once our tariff ends.

That's a lot of electricity if you aren't using it for space heating.

If you move onto a capped variable rate tariff and still use £8000kWh/yr you'll be paying around £2400/yr, £200/month.

  • They can't update my meter to show correct tariff which is annoying so I'll never know my correct usage from my smart meter . We have gas too, not space heating . We just use a lot of electric , the car is usually charged at least once a day and to be fair the 75 inch TV is on most of the day ( not anymore !)

The display of kWh should be correct, even if the pence isn't.

No it's showing as 00.10p per kWh on my meter . They say as my bills are charged correctly it's not something I need to worry about . It's just annoying me as what I see on my smart meter is never going to be right . Defeats the object of having it.

    Hi .
I'm trying to work out my costs looking at new electric tariffs . I've checked the rate displayed on my meter and it says act tariff price 10.00 pence kWh and 0.10 standing charge . My hand held smart meter matches 10p per kWh and 10p standing charge . My bill says different rates to this though im paying a unit rate of 15.779p kwh and standing charge 20.35p.

    Hi,
for a rough calculation, just multiply whatever IHD says by, 1.5779 and 2.035, though 1.6 and 2 would be close enough,

It's all so confusing . My smart meter (IHD) says month of Jan we used 752kwh £78.31 electric. But my Scottish power online account says I used 752kwh which is the same usage but it cost me £131.22. Scottish power say they can't update my meter to show correct tariff , so the smart meter is kind of useless .

OK, but that's not too bad. If your actual price is about 20p/kWh you just double what it says; if it's about 30p/kWh, you triple it.
