Electric meter rates wrong

Hi .
I'm trying to work out my costs looking at new electric tariffs . I've checked the rate displayed on my meter and it says act tariff price 10.00 pence kWh and 0.10 standing charge . My hand held smart meter matches 10p per kWh and 10p standing charge . My bill says different rates to this though im paying a unit rate of 15.779p kwh and standing charge 20.35p.
My smart handheld meter is never going to be correct if my meter has these figures . How do I change it or do I need to contact Scottish power to get them to update it ?

Being set to 10p sounds like a default setting. Do you know if the meter is communicating properly? If it has only recently been fittied it takes a while for it to be adopted onto the system and to show the correct data (the consumtion readings will always be correct).

Only Scottish Power can update the rates that are shown on your meter and the IHD.
Those rates are not used for your billing, but I can understand why you want them to be up to date.
  • The meter has been installed for a long time , it's not new . I'm only questioning it now as I want to get an accurate reading off my IHD and if it's reading the wrong rates the balance showed will never be correct .

Was it installed by Scottish Power or have you changed supplier? If it is an old SMETs 1 meter it could have gone dumb. Have a look on your recent bills to see whether the readings are estimated or actual readings sent by the meter.
  • It wasn't installed by Scottish power, it was installed by previous supplier bulb around 3 years ago . The bills are not estimated they are actual readings so I know I've been charged the correct rates. I just want it show correct rates so i get a better picture of what I'm seeing on my IHD as trying to cut back as we are high users as we have an electric vehicle .

The meter is SP's responsibility. Ask them to update it. Depending which model it is, they may not be able to update and will have to replace it with a SMETs2 model, which will work properly with any supplier.

Alternatively, look around for alternative EV tariffs, such as Octopus Go. I've never heard anyone say the SP EV tariffs are a bargain. You may find that you get the meter fixed/replaced quicker by changing supplier, as SP are not noted for their good customer service.

That's a good sign. Just ask SP to update the rates (although see my post above).

That sounds like a legacy fixed-rate tariff. When does your fix end?
As stated above, once you have an EV you'll be eligible for EV tariffs. They might not be as cheap as your current fix but are likely to work out cheaper than the general market once your fix ends.

It's fixed until June 22. We've had the ev for 5 years now and never been on a ev plan . Does it make a difference that's it's a hybrid not full ev?
