Normally I'd just rub some washing up liquid into the area then just wash them as normal.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. My husband managed to get petrol (when filling up the car) on his best cashmere work coat.
It smells horrible.
Anyone got any tips on how to get this out so that:
a. he's not flammable anymore
b. he smells better
Thankyou in advance!Rhiannon of WoolamaiThanks!

I think you would be best taking it to a specialist cleaners0

Petrol is very volatile so just air it for a few days and it will evaporate off. Not sure what to do if it's stained at all though0

Both of the above are good advice. Having previously worked in a petrol station I can suggest that you leave the coat to air in a well ventillated place for a few days. This will allow the petrol to evaporate. Make sure that you air it somewhere that is dry and unlikely to have any naked flames or high heat. Then take it to a specialist cleaners who can recommend how you would treat it. If it had just been an ordinary item of clothing, you could just have put it in the wash as normal, in this case I think though that cashmere should be treated with care.
Good luck0 -
