Yes I would have thought so, but I'd be tempted to rinse thoroughly at the sink first. Wouldn't want to risk stinking the machine out!!You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0

i had a nasty car accident last year and remember lying injured in the recuss room thinking how i'd ruined my favourite trousers as they were covered in petrol and oil when the car crashed. Washed them at 60 degrees and it all came out first time!!0

Hi redballon,
The petrol should come out easily in a normal wash, but if I'm worried a stain won't come out I always add a few drops of stardrops to the stain before I wash the item and it always seems to work.

Ahh now if you'd been in a nasty car crash and I'd attended I'd have cut them off with tough cuts to make sure you weren't going to loose your legs = )
Injury dependant if you will... plus I love cutting up expensive clothing = )Tim0 -
I soaked one leg of my jeans at a pertrol pump a couple of years ago and had to wear them for several hours til I got home - I stank!!!
But it all came out in the wash - just one standard hot wash.0 -
I managed to get petrol on my jeans this morning and I just can't get it out. I washed them on a normal wash and now they're soaking in Daz and water in the bath and they still stink of petrol.
Anybody know what I can do? I have a horrible feeling that they're ruined and they're the only pair I've got!!!0 -
Hi,
I had a pump at tesco pour petrol over me, (their fault) customer services told me to get everything dry cleaned and to give them the bill.
The dry cleaner told me that the only way to get rid of the petrol smell was to have them dry cleaned, now I know he may have just been trying to bump up his profits, but as Tesco had said they would pay, I got my jeans, jumper, and coat done, all were covered in petrol. Once back from the cleaners they were as new, no smell at all. So you may have to fork out for dry cleaning, worth it for a new pair of jeans, but not if they are on there last legs (so to speak)

Do you have a can of WD40? Sounds weird I know but I used this on my OH's jacket that he got petrol and oil on. I spray it on worked it in then washed as normal (but added a tablespoon of soda crystals to the powder drawer as well as powder) and all the petrol came out and most of the oil.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0

Thanks all for your help! For anyone interested I did the following:
*Washed in hot wash with lots of powder - no difference
*Soaked for hours in Daz - no difference
*Soaked for hours in Daz and Bicarb of soda - noticeable difference when wet
*Washed with Vanish power spray all over, Daz, hot wash and with - wait for it - a bottle of coke poured in - trousers smelled a tiny bit when wet but when dry they were fine.
PLEASE NOTE they lost a little bit of colour doing this so if they're valuable or your favourites I'd splash out and give them a professional clean.
Hope this helps someone!0 -
