Ecotricity huge bill - Your views and suggestion

Options
Hi All,

We are new to uk and just passed one month in our apartment. The energy bill came to 297 pounds for 35 days from 15th January till 18th February. 820 units for 35 days and per unit 33.30 p. Please let us know if this is something expected. we ahave induction cooker, heater, washing machine, dishwasher.

we got 820 kwh (units) for 30 days.

i have taken ths reading one on 18 Feb and one on 15th January and taken the difference. Why I show the image is here is because I dont see a decimal point. Is this how the reading should be taken?

18 Feb - 4455
15 Jan - 3635

difference 820
18 Feb

15 Jan

  • I used 1500 kW all year last year I'm single live alone, I'm out at work from 7 till 5 when I get home I cook, have some lights on watch telly most of the night, I think 850 for a month is a bit high surely unless your working from home all day and night
  • Hi,
what type of heater, photie, please?
  • It looks high usage... But I take it you don't have gas, so your house/flat will be heated by electricity... So you usage is probably about right, however I don't have electric only so can't comment... I've just seen others with electric heater home use this much if not more.

I'm guessing you'll also have electric shower, also a heated towel rail in bathroom? Both of these use lots of energy from what little I know.

No tumble dryer? Good if you don't, if you do you can expect these to use 50 - 100 units a month, from past experience.

If you asking if your bill is correct ... It looks it to me.

It's that word "heater" in your first post.   There are a few options

a thin panel heater on the walls of the individual rooms - perhaps on their own thermostat and timer.   If so what are the settings

    a focal point infrared fire

a great big hot water tank feeding a wet radiator system

a so-called storage radiator filled with magic dust

    a conventional storage radiator

    ceiling tiles

    underfloor

If you are used to having any of these on all the time then you are certainly going to get big bills

We have the electric heater. I always ensure that it is switched off when not in use.

also i had switched off this isolator swicth just outside bathroom. Noticed it was always on for these days. Not sure if it makes any difference

Your reading is correct, no decimal points on this meter.  Your usage is usual for all electric flat in winter.  Your unit prices are high, can you find a cheaper tariff?
  • Hi,
what about your water heater/immersion, is it on a timer?

    Such as where  ?

This is an EDF fix to 2024

xTo work out the cost of this energy, we multiplied it by the tariff's unit rates.
    Unit rate ?

    Electricity unit rate: 41.71 pence

    +
Daily standing charge We then added your daily standing charges for the year.?

For those on a long term fix hold onto it for when it runs out life is going to get very expensive

For those coming into the market like OP has done they have very few options

I was with symbio and now with eon, I’m not in any fixed contract and a lot cheaper than what you have quoted.  Yes, I agree it will go up in October but many things can happen before then.

OP is with Ecotricity, one of the green energy companies that are exempt from the Ofgem cap.
