For those reading this thread (sorry to part hi-jack), but any thoughts for using talktalk 900 for gaming ?
i am a PC gamer (wired), use my own router, currently with BT (ONT house only) with 150mb...
BT works good, as no shaping, and low latency...

Hard to find info in terms of TalkTalk fttp in regards to latency and throttling......
And handy info on the eero, as i would have sold the eero boxes if i do go with talktalk...

I saw you answered to another post re: TalkTalk, so I won't respond to your question here (as you've already got that answer).

In terms of connection speed, unless you are a heavy user there's very little point going right up to 900Mbps apart from bragging rights.  I'm on 500Mbps FTTP and I use my connection a lot (~800GB/month), but even then the connection mostly sits idle.  Far Cry 6 for example downloaded in ~8 minutes including HD textures, so although the 900Mbps option would make that faster (assuming the server providing the download can go that quick), you may not need it in the longer term.   Most people don't need more than 25Mbps multiplied by the number of people in the household to stream and play all they want - the latency of FTTP means you will get a low ping even if others are using it for other tasks.

Perhaps an opportunity to save some cash now and consider 900Mbps if prices drop in a few years ;)

If you've got low latency then there's no reason for it to get worse with any other provider on an FTTP connection. I changed from BT with Vodafone and ours is a consistent 6-10ms, even using wifi.

I've done multiple speed tests since we changed (both wired and wifi) and we consistently get 93-94mbit/s on a 10ombits contract with a ping of 6-7ms. We previous had a 76mbits contract with BT and got 75 with a ping of 6-10 mbit/s. However there can be a wide variation depending on which speed checker you use and which server they are using. Ping time is related to the distance and number of hops between you and the server that you are pinging.

The worst I get seems to be the Google broadband speed checker where I was getting around 130ms this morning whereas OOKLA, Which? and a couple of others were all coming in between  7-10. Speeds were all around 93-94mbit/s, except for Which? which showed 98.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers

    cheers for the replies guys...
Reading posts about TalkTalk still providing poor customer service was my deciding point not to consider them.....
Taken on-board what you say with the fttp, i work on the contention ratio and equipment used in the exchanges/hubs to work out if i think i might get a decent connection (not DL speed)...

However, from spending time reading posts last night, maybe its time to give the small guy a go (Cuckoo), :)

You could go with Cuckoo who do the Openreach 900Mbps package (apparently via TalkTalk Business). You can opt to use your own router (or use the one they provide and wire in if you prefer which is an option at sign up). From what I hear, the latency is low and there isn't throttling. The speed is the full 900 and reliable given it's Full Fibre. If it's Openreach (which BT uses as well), it should be the same. Only difference is different providers might state different "guaranteed speeds" to cover themselves with most others stating a higher speed than BT Retail did/do. So if BT works good, others will likely work good too.
