How good is the 4G signal where you are, an alternative is to get a 4G router and drop the physical line altogether.
  • The signal is very good where I am.

Hi. The thing is I don't need a landline. Sky have always added it to my contract but I haven't even got any home phones. I never have had and I wouldn't even know my home phone number. The last time I did have a home phone was around 12 years ago.

Unless you are going for a mobile phone internet you will require a landline for broadband to arrive at your house, even if you don't use it for phone calls. I think OFGEM ordered all ISPs to include landline cost in the headline prices to avoid confusion and hidden costs

You will need your phone number so you can tell the new supplier to enable them to verify they can supply you. If you don't know it I suggest you find out PDQ before Sky pull the plug and you are left in limbo

  • Thanks I'll look through my paperwork.
So what happens if people move into new properties and haven't got a home phone
Is that where the installation charges are paid?

    Quick update.
Sky phoned me and to discuss all of this just now...
The reason I can't just cancel my TV package and keep the BB and line are because everything on the contract was taken out at the same time. So apparently they told me I haven't got a separate TV BB and talk contract.*
The reason why my BB and talk would go up even if I stayed with everything and didn't cancel until the end of my contract is because the deals were given to me in a package and they would go up after my contract ends anyway...Well ok then ..So going forward...

    1) I have no cancellation fees to pay after the cut off date (31days from when I cancelled so 25/3). As I've been with sky for nearly 14 years.

    2) They said they could only offer me a deal on my broadband and talk if I cancel the termination. They wouldnt tell me what prices they would offer me unless I reinstated it all  So I declined . (So they can just drop the TV package then as they were offering just BB and talk to me)*.
    3) I now have my phone number so I have until 25)3 to look round for new deals.

All this is a headache but I'm not prepared to get Iocked into long contracts where they keep hiking up the prices.
Now again going forward. Forgetting the TV package as I'm not looking into that.
Can anyone help with cheap BB either with or without a phone line. Preferably without.
And rolling contracts as well as fixed.
What sites are out there to compare
I've already been introduced to cuckoo but it's a bit expensive for me.
Thanks again. Everyone has been very helpful as I have no idea of what to do or where to go or what I'm doing as I've been with sky for nearly 14 years.

Try the MSE tool for cheap broadband:
Or just look at MSE's pick of the top deals:
There are deals there from about £15/month.

Of course if you would like to be ironic go for NOW TV, it's cheap skate Sky re labelled
They do just BB [landline non optional as with all] but there is TV Sky streaming if wanted

I've been with them for a couple of years without problems, just basic package, come renewal time there no hassle, a confusing e mail which boiled down to renew at same price
CS were good when my phone line carrying BB was dug up by road workers
