That small print looks very small, read this and complain to your MP.

Parking companies have great difficulty proving ' left the site' cases. They have to provide actual proof of the driver leaving site otherwise there is no claim to be made. They have to prove a breach occurred.
Get as many pictures of site and signage as possible to help your case.
What does it say on the ' other small one on a lamp post ' ?
Is the site boundary defined by description or a map on signage ? If not then the scammers will have great difficulty convincing a judge this occured. How is anyone to know when they have left a specific site if it has not been defined in some way.
They have a legal duty to mitigate the situation to avoid the breach - warn the driver what would happen if they left site. Not just sit and watch maybe.
Even if the driver admitted to leaving site it would fall as an unfair term under the CRA 2015.
VCS v Ibbotson is a similar case worth a read.

The sign on the lampost is the same as the one on the building posted before, clearly tiny. We parked in the middle and went to shopping point across the round for 1 min. This is busy for this petrol station, usually front is empty.0 -

Unless PCM have other photos the evidence on their PCN is useless. You can't see anyone never mind prove someone left the site. I think there is a third sign on a lamp post above the petrol pump. As well as being above head height and difficult to read it is deliberately facing away from the users of the garage so you can argue you did not see nor agree to their unfair terms and conditions.1

You could adapt this:
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/79013418#Comment_79013418
And you could mention the SRA (search the forum) and ask Gladstones if they want another complaint.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Good to see you are back C-M. I have missed your wise words1

The wording on the sign is confusing to say the least...
' Additional parking charges apply for each 24 hour period, or part thereof, that the vehicle remains in breach or if it returns at any time '
Returns to where ?? Can a vehicle only go to that garage once ?? That's not good for business !
' Drivers who leave their vehicles unattended at any time either before or after using the garage will be subject to immediate enforcement '
What are you supposed to do ?? Take the vehicle into the garage shop with you so that it isnt unattended ??
