I'd push back on paying for the Conference yourself and reclaiming it. If work want you to attend, they should pay upfront. It's quite acceptable to say no, that's not possible - and give no further explanation.
Thanks for advice! I wish I could but I actually really want to go to the conference and this is the way the system works unfortunately. If I don't pay then I don't get to go, and it will be good for my career. So I guess in a way it is my choice to delay paying back my debt a bit but you are right in other professions it wouldn't be my responsibility to pay upfront and wait to be reimbursed!

The plumber I have been waiting for all day has just cancelled last minute and then the company was so rude to me on the phone. Honestly I don't know how they get away with it. Feeling pretty fed up right now it has to be said. Will just have to try and get somebody over tomorrow.

No way would I pay for the conference up front.
    Your employer should pay.

  • Pay day eve for me today. Tomorrow was supposed to be my debt free date! I think I will speak with my employer today and see if there is any way not to have to pay upfront for conference as you all have suggested and then see how much I actually get paid (for some reason payslip hasn't been uploaded yet) then make an assessment! Thanks everyone for the advice as always  :)

Pay day has finally arrived and luckily HMRC have refunded me all the extra tax they took last month so that is a huge relief! I was planning on paying off my debt in full but instead after looking through the numbers I have paid £510 today bringing my remaining debt down to £413. I decided instead to top up my EF and sinking funds a bit as I always feel anxious towards the end of the month if they are looking a bit sorry for themselves and I feel like I have no buffer. Work have said the conference will be reimbursed next pay day so felt like I could put a bit more than originally planned to my debt.

Definitely the final stretch now! £50 direct debit will come out in a week or so then my debt will be £363. I will send all survey and vinted money to the card this month then at the end of the month if I have anything left over send that and pay off the remaining balance next pay day hopefully! I have over £10 pending on prolific so hopefully that comes through soon and might do a sweep of the house for anything I can put on vinted now!

    Hope everyone is keeping well.

    Thanks  :)

  • @beanielou did pretty much just that this morning!  :D

Cashed out £10 from airtime rewards then just topped up that amount to £20 and sent to CC to bring my debt down to £393.

My initial starting debt was £7393 so I have paid off £7000 since January!

Cashed out £5 from prolific (still have an annoying £18 pending!) and sent to CC so down to £388 left to go! Had a NSD today but need to go to the supermarket tomorrow for weekend supplies. Excited for some time off after working last weekend!

Annual home insurance came out this morning, which I will be honest I had forgotten about. Transferred sinking funds over to bills account to cover it and added it to my spreadsheet. I now have over £20 pending on prolific after doing another couple of surveys this morning. Some of them will reach their time limit for review next week so I should hopefully be able to cash out latest then but I am feeling impatient! So close to the finish line I just want this last bit gone already but I don't want to leave myself short for the month. Looked into doing another switch but the only one I would be eligible for involves swapping direct debits and it was a bit of a hassle last time so I'm just going to leave it for now. I should focus on being grateful that all this should be gone in next few weeks!

Edit: £9 cashed out and sent to my card so total down to £379
Edit 2: £6 from vinted so sent that over as well

I have had no problems with bank switching.
If it was not for the fact I really like FD I would move again.

    Nearly there

  • Yes definitely final stretch now!

Cashed out another £6 from prolific so sent that over and now balance is £367, less than 5% of starting total!

Will just keep chipping away with these small payments this month up until pay day then pay off final remaining amount.

I had been tempted to use my EF but my recent spell without any hot water for a few days and the £250 bill that came with it has reminded me how vital that is!
