  • Thanks very much guys! 1 week to go until pay day and my debt free date!

Once my debt is gone the next aim will be to build up a good buffer in my current account (maybe around £500) and add further to my EF to bring it at least to 1 month salary but eventually aiming for 3- 6 months. I think once I am confident I will remove my overdraft availability entirely (currently stands at £250). I'm not sure why this scares me so much, I guess I have always viewed it as a safety blanket but in time my savings will be that instead.

Today I started buying a few Christmas presents and planned out all the others I am going to get next week also when I am paid. I am trying to keep it low key this year and just get select people one nice gift rather than wasting my money on loads of rubbish just for the sake of it! I have a quiet week coming up as my boyfriend is away with work and I am super busy with work myself. I have a weekend visiting friends planned though for the start of December, which I am looking forward to. Excited about Christmas this year as well for once! I think because it has been so strange the past couple of years I am really looking forward to spending time with my family.

    Hope everyone is keeping well.

  • So feeling a bit stressed and anxious today after receiving a letter that my mortgage amount will be an extra £300 per month from end of December. Things are still progressing with the sale (slowly) but a couple of things about it are making me anxious it might not go through, particularly all the issues with interest rates. It is out of my hands so just have to hope and pray that I do sell the house and I don't have to pay the higher rate for too long! At least my debt should be gone by then so can put that money towards mortgage. Such worrying and stressful times for so many people!

I too keep my OD of £250.
Changed days to when I was always at my OD limit & beyond!

I left my overdraft in place although I havent used it for years. I'm not sure about now but the difference in charges between unauthorised overdraft and authorised used to be hair raising. Just in case I ever made a miscalculation or forgot about something I've left it. I've just stopped thinking about it as available spending money.
  • Thanks @lucielle, @beanielou and @CRANKY40 for the messages!

Maybe I will just keep the overdraft at £250 then but just ignore it. For some silly reason I do feel better having it there even without using it..

I have had a relatively good MSE day today for me! Bolognese made in the slow cooker, which I will confess normally sits in the corner gathering dust. I have made enough for at least a few portions so can have for lunch tomorrow and freeze some as well. Also been having a big clear out and deep clean for most of today. I find it quite therapeutic sometimes! Now snuggled up with the cat, he hates it when I hoover so has spent most of the day hiding under the bed in the spare room  :D

Feels good to have had a quiet weekend at home. I definitely needed it!

  • Morning all!

NSD for me yesterday and hoping for the same again today as wfh. Only a few more days to go to being debt free!!

I was hoping my payslip would be out this morning but no sign of it yet. Once I know how much I'll be paid then I can start to make a proper plan. Need to finish off my Christmas shopping and transfer some money to my mum for a holiday next year.

Think I am going to treat myself to a new spreadsheet for my finances from the new year as well. I still want to track all my bills going out and my savings and budget so it will be good to have a fresh start.

Nothing much else to report here. I have around £5 pending on prolific as I haven't been doing many surveys lately. Oddly managed to do one at 1am last night when I was having an insomniac moment!

Hope everyone has a good day  :)

  • Day before my debt free date! Got my payslip through and the amount for the conference has been reimbursed to me so definitely set to pay the last little bit off in full tomorrow. I am nervous but excited.. I don't know why it feels a bit scary. The next stage is keeping out of debt and adding to savings. Need to remember everything I have learnt to get me to this place in the first place!

I will update tomorrow once it has all been paid. I can't wait!!

Too late for this month but if you use the government gateway site you can see your gross pay and tax paid which gives you a rough idea of what you'll be paid before you have your payslip. I've seen mine already for this month even though I don't get paid until the 30th. Enjoy tomorrow 😁🎉
