  • Morning everybody.

Why is the week leading up to payday always the longest week???

Hoping I am getting paid on Friday but it might be Monday as my payday seems to change from sometimes 26th or working day before to sometimes 27th. Money saving wise I am living off about £3 for next few days but have a lot of food in. If I'm not getting paid until Monday then going to have to dip into savings, which is less than ideal but better than using credit! Today not going to be a NSD but tomorrow likely to be then Thursday has to be!

Hope everybody is well and not affected too badly by train strikes!

  • Hi for your cat I would suggest buying the odd pack of chicken thighs. Roast them in a casserole dish without oil. Pour off the fat and when cooled chop them up small. He will really enjoy the change. You can freeze what you don't use (or eat it yourself, as thighs are great in a tray bake). Will save you a little money. Good luck, chin up, you are doing great V x

Just finished reading your diary and you have done sooo well so far! Wish my debt would go down as quickly as yours has :( When you have down days just look back and remember where you were financially a few months ago! Might seem like you aren't moving in the right direction but you have actually come such a distance!!! Have bookmarked your diary to cheer you on! x

Thanks that is some good advice! I'm sure he would love it and probably healthier than cat food as I always think about all the preservatives and things that must be in it.

Today has actually turned out to be a NSD after all! Completely unexpected but ended up WFH due to one thing or another. Hoping for another tomorrow!

Also thinking about setting up the 100 envelope challenge... has anyone done before? Might be quite a fun way to save!

  • Electronic payslip came through last night and luckily I am being paid on Friday. Only 2 days to go! My account with 1% cash back on spending has finally been set up and opened the 1.5% savings account that goes with that as well. Will use this as my spending account now and see how I get on. I am not sure if it will give me a breakdown of spending in different areas like I am used to with my old spending account so I have set up a page on my spreadsheet to keep track of it. I think the 1% is worth it though. I have some savings in premium bonds, which I might move out into this savings account after the prize draw next month.

I have a few things I need to pay for once my wage hits such as travel card for next couple of months, hen party and train ticket to see friend for her birthday. I also need to buy a few summer items such as sun cream but will wait until my new card is put on airtime rewards to maximise cash back. I always feel as if I have already mentally spent half my pay check before it even hits my account!

Lodger is staying for the rest of the month now. Will put some of that money towards savings and some towards debt. Will figure it out this week.

Thinking about setting up slightly longer 100 envelope challenge where I select 2 envelopes per week over 50 weeks rather than 4 per week over 25 weeks like I have read about. Think I will just transfer the money to savings rather than taking cash out as well. At the end the amount saved should be £5050! Will see next week as don't have a huge amount of disposable income but this might force me to make cut backs in other areas and prioritise saving! I guess I could use the amount saved to pay of remaining debt in a big chunk as well. Lots to think about! Need to start saving for Christmas as well, although it's hard to think about that with such hot weather!

    Thanks everyone  :)

Caught up on your diary. I dread when my lodger moves out as I know how tight it will be by then and trying to not let myself get used to the extra money. I know it doesn't feel like you are making much headway with the debt but at least you aren't getting into more which is what would have likely happened. Its good to have something to aim for with moving in together with your bf. Just try and focus on each 1% of your debt you'll be amazed how quick it adds up
