    Nope, you can't!
    Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

    I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

    @Umkomaas is right.

    No, you cannot attend any hearing instead of the named Defendant.
    You can however, attend alongside the Defendant and speak on their behalf as a Lay Representative but the Defendant must attend any hearing.
    Might be worth you reading The Lay Representatives (Rights of Audience) Order 1999.

    So the latest is i may have persuaded my Gran  to stay til after the court date. Now the other issue I have is both of our court dates are on the same day but just given a time frame between 10am-5pm and I need to represent her. So I wanted to know if our hearings will be at different times, or can it be simultaneously in different rooms? and if that is the case, how can i represent her?
    Thank you guys for all your help!

    Which court is it?
    Depending on the court will depend if they are block listed.
    You would be best speaking to the usher when you go the hearing. Again it depends on the court in question

    I think you need to read the Hearing Tips section of the NEWBIES thread to be properly prepared. There is also a video showing newbies what a county court hearing is like (a formal meeting, that's all).

    If it is an in-person hearing you get there a bit early (never late!) and sign in and tell the Usher which case you are there for.

    It’s in person, I don’t want to the usher to reject my request to represent my gran as she wont know what to say. so I need to be prepared and know in advance if my court time will be same time as my gran.. Otherwise my gran will just pay the fine

    The Usher can't reject you as a lay rep, and it's not a request. It's your nan's right to have a lay representative speak for her (make it clear to the Usher you are NOT a 'McKenzie Friend' and will be speaking for nan).

    Give the Usher the usual printout of the Lay Reps RoA Regs that we tell every lay rep to take along.  As discussed in hundreds of threads.

    Why not ring the court 48 hours before and ask that the cases be listed back to back with the same Judge, so they can't overlap.  Explain why.  This would be an unusual request so be very clear and polite.
