What camera is this
Hi,
We live near a road with these cameras. What exactly is this camera and do they flash when speeding.I have emailed our council but no answer.
I'm sure it has flashed before but there is roadworks constantly with workmen with flashing on there vehicles so I can't tell if it's from the work men or this camera. Can anyone confirm do these flash.Always thought they didnt but unsure.

looks just like a council CCTV camera thats normally used for dealing with matters like bus lane infringement, stopping in a yellow box, turning against the rules, no entry signs etc but not speeding or red lights.
Most the types of speed camera can be seen on The UK's Speed Camera Types | Fixed and Mobile speed cameras explained (speedcamerasuk.com)0 -
HiI'm unsure and think it's a speed camera.
The first camera is a white camera which i think is to see how many cars on the roadThen there's a 30MPH signThen there's the yellow cameraAnd that's it on the road

Cameras on their own can't measure speed, you need some speed measuring device such as radar, under road sensors or a multi-camera average speed setup. That camera looks too small to hose any type of radar.0

Ultimately its guess work for anyone other than the person that put it up or operating it.LB2020 said:HiI'm unsure and think it's a speed camera.

It doesnt look to have whats necessary to be a stand alone speed camera. It could be an average speed check camera but I thought they had to explicitly warn about average speed check areas and all you've show is a standard speed camera sign. Hence I would say its just a general enforcement camera.0 -
The sign on the post shows it's a Red Route, so perhaps it is there to detect and photograph unauthorised stopping0 -
They don't have to warn about any type of speed check.Sandtree said:

Stand corrected, guidelines suggest they should but its not a legal requirementCar_54 said:

I don't believe there are even guidelines. The government said it was going to legislate (about 20 years ago?) to have cameras painted yellow, compulsory signs etc., but they never got round to in.Sandtree said:

Yorkshire police say there are, plus various other similar sources.Car_54 said:

The were ACPO guidelines to speed enforcement, don't know if they've been rewritten.Car_54 said:
