Help with gas bill

Hi,
I would be really grateful for some help with our first gas bill at our new home. The meter says m3 and I assume it’s a metric meter. We’ve used 914 units and I’ve attached the bill for some help. I’ve never had a bill as high as this even in my other home which was a lot bigger. This property has 5 bedrooms. Can someone help me and double check if it should be calculated as shown for a metric meter.  Supplier is saying it is correct as I was querying if they’d used the calculation x 2.83 thinking it was imperial. They are saying we have used 28656 kWh in 91 days. Thank you so much for any help

That bill is for an imperial meter so you need to get back to them and clearly emphasise that they are charging for an imperial meter when yours is metric.  Does the meter serial number correspond ?

The main issue is that I think the meter has been treated as if it read in Ft3 not m3

Check the serial numbers on the meter and bill -  ring your supplier.

The bill say "Your read"   of 8643 and 9557

Were these your reads or are they estimates ?

    Read your meter NOW please
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill
  • Thank you both so much for your help. I’ve phoned multiple times and whats app them and they keep telling me I’m wrong. Tbh it’s really stressing me out and I feel they are just not listening to me. Here are a few responses I’ve had and also a pic of my meter.

They are wrong.  Send in a formal complaint.  Also your meter reads 09600 - it needs all five digits.

But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,

That's probably what's caused the problem.  Imperial meters have only four digits, excluding the red ones.
  • Hi,
thank you for your reply. I raised this with them as was only able to enter 4 digits online. Please see below the message. I have opened a case with resolver and hope this will help. I didn’t know if I was working the bill out correctly so these replies I am very grateful for.  First time with EDF and will be moving ASAP

    I'd concur with others - it's definitely a m3 meter.

The erroneous bit in their formula is the x2.83.  If you divide your bill by 2.83, that's more like what it should be.

As a very rough back of an envelope guide - 1m3 x 11.25 would give you kWh for gas.  So in your case, roughly about 10,282 kWh for that bill - not 28,656 (if you divide that by the erroneous '2.83' = 10,126).

Try telling them this.  "My meter is METRIC (m3) and you are OVERCHARGING me by billing in IMPERIAL (ft3).  Please ESCALATE this to your SUPERVISOR if you are unable or unwilling to assist.  Thank you."
  • Thank you so much, I’ve just copied and pasted your wording to them on what’s app

Surely they can't dispute the photo you've shown them, it clearly shows the meter reading and that it's m3!

You'd think EDF were experienced enough to know how to calculate gas bills.
