  • John Lewis? Was that a joke?

AKG k240 Studio or not too bad but if your budget is more do a search on studio reference headphones. Quite a few good sites but generally studio phones are not usually open backed...there are some.

I looked at those AKG headphones yesterday . They don't look that appealing to me .
Reason I say that , is the headband design is in the same design as the Samson ones that I'm returning . They were not adjustable or comfortable and felt restrictive .
    AKG are good though ..
  • Might have missed it, but have you said how much you want to pay, a_c?

    I forgot to mention £1 00-£150 max 🤦
ones that get mixed ( mainly positive ) reviews are Roland which is in the right direction . They aren't adjustable though and  are closed back unfortunately .
  • Would be surprised if you found then non adjustable but no point in buying ones that you will not like. Would recommend the k550 or the 553, they are adjustable but closed back and you probably would not hear enough of the exterior sound. Not noise cancelling but certainly, like many studio types, noise attenuating. Hope you find something that fits the bill.

The Audio Technica ATH range of studio closed back headphones are good value.
I have the lowest in the range - ATH-M20x. Sound very good for £40.
Open back headphones are more suited to hifi use.

In all seriousness, have you not looked at the Sennheiser website?

"Over-ear headphones can feature a closed or an acoustically open design."

    https://en-uk.sennheiser.com/over-ear-headphones

6 out of 10 are open acoustic design

^^ I am a big fan of Sennheiser some their headphones sound great.

However for studio use meeting the spec of openback style probably only the HD 400 PRO fits the requirement. True that  a high proportion of the home listening ones are open back but hardly any of those designed for studio and similar pro use in or close to the budget!

Not saying other brands are very different though!

Those hd 400 pro phones are good and value for money compared to many peers but at over £200 outside max budget unless it can be streched. Good review at https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/sennheiser-hd-400-pro

  • I've just placed an order for the koss !
Should be with me tomorrow . I'll update once I've tried those ..
