Studio monitor headphone suggestions please..

Options
My old Sennheiser HD433  headphones have finally died 😿
I used these for recording efforts on my mixer and Mac .
I loved them, and they were so comfy

I am uploading pics here to show the type of phones I’m talking about .
This type of headphone is non existent due to technology progress over the years.

Anyhow , the type of headphone I require are open back ( so that I can hear what’s around me such as intercom ringing etc ) .
Plus comfort is very important.
I did purchase a pair of Samson headphones from the Amazon and they are waiting to be returned/collected .

A lot of headphones have great reviews and so many look the same and are not adjustable for my large head😼

I have ordinary headphones but they are not right for recording . I did try.

Hope that someone can point me in the right direction
Thanks

    What is your budget?

My best advice would be to go to eg Richer Sounds or Sevenoaks HiFi and spend some time listening to what they have. That will at least put a baseline in the sand (or the mixed metaphor of your choice)

    Also look atreviews eg

  • Wow! Thanks for speedy input
The prices there are my absolute maximum . I am seriously thinking of pulling the trigger on the eBay listing @flaneurs_lobster. I've put it on watch .
My only question there  is , are they really ' new' ? I think my ones are around 20 years old

I did look on richer sounds website ,and saw a pair of AKG  and Grado recommended on sevenoaks. Not overly impressed .
I didn't think you are allowed to try headphones on before purchase due to hygiene reasons etc .
I purchased a pair of AKG for commuting but was not allowed to try them . I had to rely on the sales assistants word that I wouldn't hear bawling babies on the bus 😼
  • Just had another look at the ones on fleabay, and they are actually different .
They are leather based , and mine are not . They look as comfy as mine obviously .
    mmm...

Take a look at the Koss Porta Pro headphones which are from the age of your Sennheisers (in fact the 1980's) but still easy available.

They are open backed, lightweight and very comfortable. I've had mine for at least 20 years and regularly wear them at the gym.

In stock at Amazon for £37

You said you want studio monitor headphones but the ones listed/being discussed are really not what I'd consider monitor... are you really just asking for a pair of headphones or did you actually want ones with the characteristics of studio monitors?

    Good question.
The background to how I purchased  the sennheisers and the Beyer ones before that , is that I purchased them when buying bass guitar effects from Denmark street back in the day .

When I plugged my normal headphones into mixing desk last night , they sounded poor .
I did do many searches over last 24 hrs for “ open back studio monitor headphones “ and got various results of course .
The ones that cost around £250 ish look like nearer what would suit. 🙀
Then again there are so many options and many Don’t have adjustable headband etc .
When I purchased my broken set they were around £20 back then .
    Hardly studio quality price😼

I don't know about Richer Sounds, but you can try headphones at John Lewis.
