Once you make the installer usb you then boot from the usb rather than the hard drive so it won’t use any of the existing windows drivers - if the touchpad doesn’t work when you start from the usb this would suggest there is a hardware or bios setting issue instead.

I tried to change the bios settings to boot from usb but couldn't get it to work, I'll have to look at some instructions somewhere, on how to do it, as I can't remember, is windows 10 a free download? Thanks.

Instructions here on how to download and access the boot menu

it is free provided you have a valid windows 7 or 8 licence key.

You need a USB stick which is 8GB or larger, and then you download the following tool from Microsoft:

    https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=691209

Run this on one of your other PCs which is working properly, and choose to 'Create Installation Media'  Choose Windows 10 64 bit, and choose the USB stick as the location you want to create the media to - note this will wipe any data stored on the USB stick.

Once created, shut down the laptop you want to wipe, plug in the USB stick and restart, keep tapping the F8 key as soon as you have pressed the power button until the boot menu appears and then choose to boot from the USB drive

Once you have booted from the USB follow the prompts:
    -Choose English/UK Keyboard
    -Choose Install Now
-If prompted for a product key enter your windows 7 product key
-Choose Custom - Install Windows Only
-When asked where to install windows, you need to delete all the existing partitions, highlight each in turn and choose delete, you should be finally left with one item called Drive 0 Unallocated Space
-Choose next and the install should complete

After install go to windows update to check for updates, once installed reboot, check for updates again, repeat this until windows says that no more updates are available.
  • Hi,
over a week now, be easier and quicker trying a plug in mouse, can you not borrow one to try?
  • Just a thought, I can't remember W7 much, but surely if there is no mouse plugged in then the Touchpad should be under device manager ....Human Interface Device

  • I had the same problem and a USB mouse solves the issue big time

There could be a hardware issue - can you make a windows 10 install usb and try booting from that - if the touchpad is still not working then it would suggest a hardware issue.
